Alternative Club Run - June 6th

Postby Snoop Doug » Mon Jun 01, 2009 10:19 am

Folks

This Saturday I'm going to take marco's excellent loop out to Walton then onto Little Switzerland. http://www.addiscombe.org/members/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9341 This will be a steady and likely quite gentle paced effort as I look to get back into enjoying my cycling.

I thought maybe we could have a bit of fun on the zigzags and maybe race them have some heats and a final or something to mix it up on the way round??

Afterwards, I'd like to invite the ride back to my gaff for a cup of tea and a bit of cake. It's an easy extension of the route. I live on the Carshalton, Wallyville, Purley borders so for a lot of people it's an easy pootle down hill to get back home afterwards. If the weather's bad we may have to can this bit.

Meet from 09.15 to depart 09.30 from the Midday Sun at Chipstead so as not to get in the way of the main CR.

I wonder if anyone wants to join me? I'd appreciate it if you could let me know as I'll need to get caked up to suit potential demand.

Hope to see a few of you on Saturday.

Cheers - Snoop

Rats, I was planning on trying the 18s that day to see how I'm getting on!

But can I still come back for tea?

I'm planning on going out that way, but probably a bit earlier as I need to home get by .... :? actually I'm not sure when I have to get back, but it's quite early or I'm toast. I shall probably check if anything's happening on Epsom Downs so might see you on the loop.

Well I'm very happy to run it from CSS but I am concerned that established club run people will think I'm trying to steal folk away..?

I'll turn up and if anyone fancies it I'm happy to lead. Steady pace I'll be on mtb with skinnies

No problem with alternate routes Snoop, I often do them (well when I get to a CR anyway). Just give Monty a shout when he does the VC get together at the start so he can call your group/ride out at a suitable slot, or say if you want to go first/last group.

Myself & Marky Mark had our own alternative clubrun this morning leaving the Texaco garage by the 3 steps @ 6am.

By the time I had got home my powertap was saying just under 5 1/2 hrs @ 18.7mph avg. I would imagine after leaving Marky Mark by the Charlwood cafe he would have had 6 + hrs by the time he had got home.

Our route togther starting from Reigate was Dorking, Shere, Cranleigh, Alfold, Loxwood, Wisborough Green, Fittleworth, Arundel, Findon, Washington, West Grinstead, Southwater, Broadbridge Heath, Rusper, Lambs Green, Charlwood.

Marky did well....

The route had a couple of steep climbs one was labelled @ 18% near Fittleworth and of course Bury Hill.

if you’re doing 6hours of the may flyer and riding with the 18/19 then we should be seeing you racing at Palace Amy.

sounds like your more than capable

We need a bigger team of Addiscombe golden girls to fight off the blue city girls.

Went out as planned with a 19s group (in)ably led by that rare sight VC Ajay!! I didn't do too badly, just a bit off the pace up the Reigate steps; something that the Dragon Ride and a couple of weeks lugging the tourer up some Scottish hills will help. Toks, I expect to a fully paid up member of the 19s again after I get back from Scotland :D I'll stick with the 18s until then (when I'm out) just to consolidate things.

I have to say that I am pleased with how I'm getting back to form - a couple of months ago I barely stay with the 17s. And all I'm doing is going on how I feel and a little help from my friends making me ride just that bit harder on those longer rides - thanks to my 'loyal' posse :D

well done you! :D We've all got to continue to push ourselves to make fitness gains. In your case that may mean longer rides at 17/18mph or shorter/faster rides at 19/20mph or a combination of both. Come on step outside of that "comfort zone"

As Robh said....
Our route togther starting from Reigate was Dorking, Shere, Cranleigh, Alfold, Loxwood, Wisborough Green, Fittleworth, Arundel, Findon, Washington, West Grinstead, Southwater, Broadbridge Heath, Rusper, Lambs Green, Charlwood.

May I add that I think you missed out Guilford, Worthing and Hell-n-back and don't forget the 5am alarm clock!

Superb bit of training for poor old Marky Mark as I thought we were going to be heading back by the time we got to Cranleigh, but oh no we just kept heading south so Mr Garmin kept telling me, oops should of taken 2 bottles.
Surprised to say the least at the speed we got to the south coast , I think it was 3 hours to Arundel.

Rob was very kind to me as he let us stop at a service station to take on liquid and some paracetomol I got as my lower back was starting to ache.

I made the brave choice to leave my waterproofs indoors, so as soon as I left my house it rained nearlly all the way there and most of the way back to, kept me nice and cool. Spirits were good until I rode past a sign that said London 57 miles, now that did knock me down a peg or two, but stuck at it thanks to the rear wheel of Robs bike.

There was a clear sign that I was getting tired, not the fact that my arms, back and legs were aching but... at the start of the ride the snot rockets were nice and high over the shoulder. Mid way through the ride the head was starting to get heavy and the rockets were going under the arms. From Charlwood to Home they were on the top tube  :D  .

A very nice 111.3 miles in the bag that morning. 6h 22m 52s. That was my longest and fastest ride ever.

Sun, Turbo 1h 20m
Mon, 36 miles in 2h 25m 52s
Tue, 40.27 miles in 2h 25m 52s
Thur, 40.52 miles in 2h 26m 58s

Total miles for the week : 228.09 :D
Total hours in the saddle : I'd rather not add it up
Feel good factor : priceless

Bury Hill was one to remember, may change the rear cassette if I do that one again!

Nice to have made it in time to see all you good people in the cafe on the way back, I needed to stretch my back out but keep on the move as my body was telling me just to go home and have have a nice hot shower.
Nice one
Mark caught us up at Purley Tescos on the way back and we nearly fell off when he told us how far he had gone. He's done amazingly well, especially considering he's only been in the club just over a year!

edit: Alternative clubruns are where its at!

Nice to see you gents. Alternative clubruns are last years grey, bring em on. So many beautiful roads out there to find and ride, I love trying new things.

Happy days,
Marky Mark :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

No riding for me next weekend. 6 rounds of golf in Devon, 12 blokes, large supply of lager vouchers, buggies, gonna get messy!

Sounds like what I'm aiming for 8)

Might have some routes in mind for longer rides and I can now tag along on other people's rides :D
