Alternate CR Sunday 7th June

Postby Andrew G » Tue Jun 02, 2009 8:55 pm

Subject to rain, showers okay.

I'll be doing my alternate CR route (Bletchingley, Lingfield, Westerham, cafe stop, Pilgrims Way, Biggin Hill, options from there to be decided at the time).

Leaving CSS at 9.30 (leaving on time). Home for lunch but early bail options if required, just tell me in advance and I can point you at them.

Speed will be circa 19s CR speed, not anchored to a set speed (terrain is different etc) but a reasonable pace.

Sounds cool Mr Green I may even join you if I don't race at Barcombe. Now I've got a problem. The pedantic side of me is somewhat troubled by the word "circa" being used without a date being attached  Now this could well be a general 'loosening up' of its definition that I was unaware of... Anyway I'm ramblng now and my coffee is getting cold. I should be ok though and I'll try not to let the 'circa' thing affect my day.  :D

I have never yet done a club run... so would this be a bit much for a newbie?

Not bothered about the pace (he says) more the fact i have never cycled in a group...

I meant to do one today but i slept in (again!)

When you say 19 i assume you mean mph... thats fine by me aslong as the hills arent too steep!

Might just see you there!

Welcome aboard :D.

Normally yes I suppose so but I used it in a more rounded way with circa meaning approximately/in the region of (apparently it literally means "around" according to the dictionary and I'm not going to argue as my Latin is practically non-existent 8) ).

Anyway, pedantry aside it would be good to see you again.

Too much for a newbie? Depends how fast/good you are :P . If you think you'll be okay then give it a go as you can just sit on a wheel all the time and if you are struggling then let me know, like I say there are a number of bail points.

Group won't be a problem, numbers will be a small handful (or maybe just me  ) rather than CR sized.

My legs normally take a little while to get going so I'll start a bit easier as far as about Merstham, and the speed given (yes mph) is only a rough indication of ability needed if you've only done CRs. I doubt it will actually be that high with a smaller group and a slightly tougher route. Think of it more as a good pace/effort. Speed is irrelevant unless you only ride the same route in the same conditions, terrain, weather, distance, etc - it all effect it so it can be a false indication.

Regroup at the top of hills, most aren't that hard just steeper/longer/both than on the CR which is pretty flat. I'm no mountain goat myself anyway.

Just need the weather to play ball now  .

No wonder I could not find you, used my steel bike with mudguards due to the wet weather. Went out looking for you this morning, no joy but thankfully some sportive was taking place around my way, so jumped onto a group in Outwood area and proceeded to sit in for a few miles. Got a bit bored so decided to spice things up, one of my favourite roads is the road from Lingfield to Edenbridge so I went to the front and gradually built the speed up to 27mph. Got to Hever area and then turned off, I think they were a bit annoyed that I was not doing the whole event. Weather was ok for the first part of the ride but on my way home the rain started to come down and it got a bit chilly. Nice ride though.

Cheers

Marek....

I half regretted canceling when the sun was out later, but wanted to put a post up early in case Toks or others were going to check before leaving home.

Although the weather perked up the torrential rain overnight would have made some of the lanes I intended to ride horrible. Instead of using my steel winter bike I cleaned it instead, so my commute can now be done on something that doesn't look like it's just been dragged out of a canal.
