Grumpy old man or what?

Postby Alan M » Mon Jun 08, 2009 10:51 pm

I now keep count of how many people I see using mobiles on my rides and sometimes shout at the offenders, anyway I'll vent my spleen by signing this:

http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/mobilemenaceban/

but maybe Mr Brown is a tad preoccupied with other stuff.

Today as I rode home along my road in the normally tranquil hamlet of Sanderstead a youth fired a plastic pellet at me out of his bedroom window. I both heard and felt it but the stupid boy left his upstairs window open so I knew where to look. I called out that he needed to talk to me or I would call the police. Eventually he appeared and said it was an accident and apologised. This didn't seem very satisfactory and when his mum came on the scene she thought maybe I was over-reacting as 'boys will be boys'. I commented on her parenting skills and left.

Maybe I should chill out, get a life and learn to accept more. Any empathetic counsellors out there? I need help.

Really Alan, come on now. Far from reprimanding the boy, you should have congratulated him...

The boy clearly has talent, he hit you, while you were moving, speedily no doubt. And with your svelt figure these days, your hardly an easy target...

No no, you should have encouraged the poor boy. Don't you know the Olympics are coming to town, the boy could be a gold medal prospect in the waiting!

You should have reported the little barsteward to the police for shooting at you and let his "parent" use the boys will be boys argument on the Met's snipers.
How long before the little scumbag gets an air weapon and someone loses an eye?

Have you seen the number of cyclists using mobiles and iPods these days? By and large they are oblivious to what's going on around them as a result. I know that they are mostly a danger to themselves, but some motorists might feel that there is something of a pot/kettle thing going on here. That said, I am forever bawling out car drivers for weaving around while trying to use the latest piece of must-have technology - including one who denied using a mobile phone because it was a Blackberry. Numpty.

Now, can someone help me down from this high horse?

It's much higher than that - although not quite as high as Alan's. Yet.

I share your outrage at this sort of thing, Alan. It only takes one good man to cycle by for evil to prosper - or something like that.

Ah come in Mr Fartpants, we've been expecting you  .

A couple of years ago I was unfortunate enough to be walking past (insert name of your most hated fast food venture here) at the same time as this rather smart, attractive lady was exiting, avec her lunch, greaseball, whatever. Anyhoo, she took the crudburger from the bag and dropped the bag in front of me. Right in front of me. I picked it up and uttered the immortal line "scuse me think you dropped something". Criminy! Good job we were outside or she'd have hit the roof and splattered herself all over it, she went off big time, right in my face.

After dropping da bomb, the lady stomped off in a huff. I looked around bewildered. This geezer walked up to me and picked up the bag. Oh poo, thought I. This guy's with her and now I'm gonna get it. Nope. He marched off after the lady and rammed the bag on her head   . Nice hat missus.

Now I come to recall this wondrous tale, Alan.....that geezer, was it you? 8)

 Summary Justice you can't bet it. She got what she deserved, wish I could do that to everyone that acts without thought for others (er how high is this horse)

Well done Alan, it goes to show why the boy is like it, when his 'mummy' doesn't even know what's wrong.

I won't admit to all the times I've had to deal it out (so many more times I would have liked to), but I try so hard not to get upset and offended by the cretins we have to share the roads/planet with, as most of them are brain dead.

When these ar--hols can inflict serious damage on our lives my name is not 'Job' , still I try to avoid confrontation, sometimes though they need to be told, even better a bag over their head, preferably plastic without air holes.

I still think you should report it to the police. Its a serious offence and the next person he shoots at might not be so lucky and could easily lose an eye.

Ah, this horse does have legs. I have emailed the community support police team who have an undertaking to get back to me in 24 hours. I live in hope. A neighbour told me that there is a pattern of behaviour here, so whilst not wishing to be vindictive any grumpy old man worth his sort must follow his destiny. Maybe I'll write and anonymous piece for the Selsdon Gazette, a pamphlet of the local residents association which has a boredom factor surpassed only by the CTC letters page!
