My original q was concerning the advantage of aero equipment over classical bike - but also guys when comparing speeds there's no point in quoting speeds from shorter distances, might as well look at the speed Chris Hoy set for the kilometer (almost 60kph). UK best 25 mile time by Chris Boardman in 1993 = 45m57s equates to a speed of 52.5km/h, current UK 30mile record = 50.36km/h. 2004 Olympics TT (Hamilton) 48Km in a time of 57.31 = 50.07km/h.

Yes. Over a similar distance (25miles) the British record of Boardman's (on fixed wheel ) is a long 45, Hutch is after it and did a short 46 in Wales the other week which averaged just over 32mph so these boys shift. That's a fast course though, the Dauphine course was not flat, it had a 4th cat climb in it.
