This is an absolute bargain, considering the cheapest price I can find on the web for an Ultegra 6600 groupset alone is £575.

indeed. although it is a triple groupset which may not be everyone's cup of tea. I've seen ultregra groupsets going for nearer £400, but still a pretty tidy package.

Lidl really is the weirdest shop isn't it? Family Ingram arrived at a secret location for last summer's holiday, to find that we were staying just a short stroll from the local supermarket - Lidl. But it didn't stock any of the things you might want to buy fresh each day - bread, milk, that sort of thing. But you could buy a wet-suit for €30. What's that about? :?

You'd be lucky to find one that cheap since late last year, when Shimano prices jumped through the roof. A lot of places are listing it at over £800 now.

Reminds me of years ago when a mate of mine bought an unknown-brand MTB for less than the price of its XTR groupset. He stripped down the bike and flogged the frame and other bits, threw the XTR on his Diamondback and had a nice component upgrade for next to nothing.

sure, but that would be for a non-SL groupset which a lot of places were selling off for about that price to shift the stock once the SL came out. Perhaps this is someone elses way of getting rid of a warehouse full of old (i.e. not the current 2009 model  ) groupsets that they can't sell for full retail now?
similarly £800 is way over the mark even for a brand new SL kit - for example.

finally of course the retail price of the groupset/components isn't the same as the wholesale price, especially for someone building bikes in quantity.

still as I said a pretty good deal overall, but you're not getting something for nothing.

Cannot help wondering who their target market would be.
