Saturday's CR

Cheers for a good ride, and some sparkling banter. I was the guy in Illes Balears kit in the 17 group; went the short way to the cafe, as the mention of through-and-off made me a bit worried...I think Nick won sprint but I'm not sure.

Had to wait 30 minutes for a bacon sarnie - new staff? - but got back on our way. Nearly went head-on into a moving car at 30mph (both me and vehicle) coming down off Church Hill towards church; I still have no idea how I managed to get through without touching the car or knocking off the rider next to me. I actually unclipped expecting to go flying. Again, Sorry about that!

But good ride and belt up the main road into Coulsdon... guy in the Jamaica jersey left our group, impressively, for dead.

EDIT: At CSS, There was a guy in AXA cycling shorts and a sweatshirt; with me starting from the back, I noticed he was dropped almost immediately. Tried to make him take my wheel, but didn't really work. Anyone know him/ what happened to him?

so many times ive been on the dual carriage way and its been hairy....no offence, but although there rarely is a crash, its always lurking...and seen as its a club ride, it really shouldnt!!!

maybe addiscombe should change their ways and cut out the through and off on the carriageway!!!!!

Crashes can happen for many reasons and I don't think they happen that often on the club run for the number of people attending. Think about the amount of races you have done Rob and the amount of crashes in them, it far outweighs the number on a club run.

I think the through and off on the dual carriageway is a good way of people getting experience of riding fast and the people that crashed this time if I think they are the ones I am thinking of are pretty damn experienced and no doubt there is a good reason for the incident.

Until you know the details I would say it would be better to wait before you pass judgement, but of course we can get our own judge to do that now, Doug?

Cheers

What I would expect of you Rob. Riding your bike offers a risk of falling off. I have come off my bike commuting to and from work in the past with no other riders around me due to unforeseen circumstances.

I think you will find that most bike clubs will get riders falling at times on the club run as it happens.

Actually thinking back when I first started riding I fell off my bike three times on one club run. Pretty impressive I thought and every time was down to me.

Cheers

Here's a quick round up,

I let the side down.

It was me, Sylv and Si H for the team event. We were annoyed that we didn't have the full five!!

I knew I wasn't feeling 100% and that was unfortunately exposed! I came off the back after eight laps. (I have alot to learn, and strength to gain, ie stick to 4th c races)

Went it alone for 6 laps before Rob came past with his break group, giving encouragement, I think all he said was "keep going" which was enough to motivate me to jump on the back of the main bunch and stick with it to the end.

Felt bad for Si H and Sylv who rode really well, but counted for nothing at the end, sorry again guys!! thanks for coming

Don't know what happened, just wasn't ready for that pace, properly prepared.

Anyway, good experience, great track and another lesson learnt

Plus it didn't rain, bonus!

Simon, don't beat yourself up about it mate. Blimey you sound suicidal. I know a fair few of the riders that you were up against in that race and they are pretty damn good and experienced.

Don't worry, it is always good to do races with people that are a lot better than you as it helps you learn and improves your fitness.

Get in a good winters worth of training and next year I reckon we will have a storming ACC team throughout the year. The way you and sylv ride it won't be long before you are up into the 3rd cat and thats when the fun really starts.

Cheers

Cheers Marek, you're right

no, I'm not that bad! just dissapointed  I didn't do better, I finished at least.

Sylv didn't feel the pressure hardly, but he is used to heavier bikes

I'll be back every so often from Italy for select events and help the Addiscombe out, looking forward to choosing a second bike to keep in this country!! thinking of a fausto coppi san remo/ bottechia there are plenty to choose from :)

Anyone know how Huw is? just read his Holm Moss article in CW. Seems like he can't stay on the saddle for long :?

I'm fine ta - stiff neck, road rash all down left leg and if I was any stiffer we could all go surfing - but the most serious thing was a dinged rear wheel and two pairs of shorts needing replacing.
