The course starts at Handcross, then heads out on a magical mystery tour of Sussex on a mixture of single carriageway A roads, B roads and lanes. There are some fast bits on the way out (40mph
), which turn into slow bits on the way back (10mph 
). Something to do with Handcross being at around 140m altitude, and the far end of the course at Bramber being at about 10m. What goes down must come back up...The course was a bit shorter than the advertised 41.59, due to roadworks at the start and at Henfield meaning the start got moved slightly and a minor road was used as a short-cut to avoid the road closure at Henfield. I think it ended up at about 40 miles. Not surprisingly then, I got round faster than I've done before.
Steve Dennis won, beating Darren Barclay by 1 second, 1:30:something. I got round in 1:49:something, probably finishing somewhere mid-field (as I was one of the early starters I didn't bother hanging round for all the results to come in). That's one of my two qualifying events in the Spoco SE group 3 done; just the Southend Wheelers 50 to do in a few weeks' time then I've qualified.
