World Handicap Championships

Took part in the grandly titled world handicap championships today. Started off in the second group which included Rob Fallon. We did a fair amount of work on the front with the Pacific Team but not many others seemed to want to work.

When the group behind caught us it was not long before a few of them jumped us and on the hill they made an excellent break. Rob Fallon was in it and did a great job going up the hill at great speed to catch onto the break of 4.

I did my best to chase it down but no one would help me. Unfortunately the Pacific guys would not come through as they had Nigel in the break so I cooked myself for a bit and then went to the back of the pack to recover.

The break stayed away and Rob managed to get an excellent second place. In the main peleton it was a sprint finish and Steve Cave came in a respectable 3rd place in the sprint and therefore got a seventh overall. I could not muster up much energy at the end and wobbled over the line in 15th place.

Average speed was around 37kmph for the 83km course.

Cheers
