Beastway 2009

Are you thinking about starting racing? Ask about future events in here, find out what you can expect at them and who else is going so you can scrounge a lift off someone rather than riding the 30 miles to get there yourself!

Beastway 2009

Postby Grahame » Mon Jun 22, 2009 2:58 pm

As some of you know, I've been helping run the Beastway "grassroots mountainbike racing" series for the last few years. Here's the press release for this year's series:
[quote="Beastway Strucutreless Tyranny"]Beastway is back and Hog Hill will be the new home of this popular London based grass roots mountain biking series this summer. The site has recently been seeded so the first race has been delayed to 1 July to let the grass establish.

The format remains as before and the short course races will use sections of the surfaced trails linked together with a variety of established woodland and newly planted areas.

Dates
There will be 4 race nights, 1, 8, 15, 22, July and a team race and prize giving on 29 July. If the weather remains dry expect fast dusty trails but this could change very quickly if we have rain to leave a very sticky circuit.

Cats
Categories are for men and women: Juniors, Expert, Sport, Masters, Veterans, Under 14, Under 16 and Singlespeed. Racing starts at 7.30pm for 1 hour, (Youth A & B categories start at 7.50pm)

Entry fees
£10 Senior, £7 concessions (UB40, OAP, Student, Junior), £5 Youth A & B.

The circuit will be built each week from 3pm. Anyone who can help us with this, or can help us on the gardening days will get a free ride."

Help
Beastway need to prepare some trails and volunteers are required on 17 and 24 June from 6.30pm prior to the start of the series to help with this. Contact Ray Blackwell if you can help on 07970082541 for more details.

Venue:
The venue is the new purpose built Redbridge Cycle Centre, known also as Hog Hill, and has full facilities including showers and lockers - www.redbridgecyclingcentre.co.uk

So who's coming out to play at riding round and round a field?

Oh, and our promotion night is 15th July, so we'll need volunteers to marshal and lap score - total of about 10 opportunities to do your duty for the year without impacting on your valuable road race and timetrial schedules. So who's going to volunteer to help?

I told Bill (the Beastway pseudo-boss) that you/we had a reverse sandbagging plan. He asked what I meant. I explained. He said "Brilliant, you should do that."

:D , see you on the start line then.

I plan on grabbing a bit to eat etc at home and then heading straight over so should be able to help set up most weeks.

If anyone wants an early lift over from Croydon or a lift home after racing then I'll have space in the car.

Hi folks

Al has already kindly offered to help at this event. I've had to draw the remaining people from the hat. The names of our other helpers are:

Matt Chapman, David Jowsey, Toby Kerr, Jonathan Carnall, Chris Colford, Matthew Shelley, Elliot Merrony, Virginia Woods and Matthew Day. They have been emailed directly this evening.
