Weirdest mechanical ?

Postby Sylv » Tue Jun 30, 2009 9:59 am

Both my chainrings fell off today

Alloy bolts on recently fitted chainset must have been working their way loose without me noticing .. not a single one left

Bit of a shock riding off a red light! Could have been much worse as I had been doing a few 20s max effort sprints and had a couple more to go :?

Nice bit of pushing for the next 5.5km ..

ha, amost happened to me recently, but just before getting on the bike prior to riding home I gave the chainring a little wiggle as it had been a bit noisy on the way in and found all 4 remaining bolts (out of 5) were well on their way to working loose.

All sorted now thanks to Linkey @ Brixton Cycles - didn't have any new bolts so scavenged 5 from the parts box and gave them away for free :)
I went there instead of Evans to support the shop but ended up not spending any money

That's very weird. Whenever I remove chainrings intentionally there's always one bolt which refuses to budge. Sounds like you need one.

On Sunday's MTB ride one of the kevlar beads in my rear tyre broke, causing the tyre to blow off the rim with a very loud bang. Never had that happen in some 18 years of using folding tyres.
