Washing Machine Problems....

Anyone know much about washing machines?

I've got a Zanussi ZWD16270W washer dryer which is 18 months old (conveniently, just out of warranty!)

It's stopping half way through a cycle and refusing to drain and then comes up with an "E20" error message which according to the book is a drainage issue(s).

So, I pulled it all out, checked the waste pipe and waste outlet for blockages, removed and cleaned the filter, took the waste pump off and cleared that out and put it all back together, only for the same error message to occur.

I think it could be either:

1) The electronics need to be reset to clear the fault (Zanussi say this can only be done by en engineer - or are they just trying to get me to sign up to a service plan?)

2) The pump's knackered.

Any ideas? Advice?

We're almost at critical stage- i'm down to my last clean pair of cycling shorts....

I've had exactly the same problem intermittently on mine. I think it must be a fault with a pressure sensor on the waste pipe which makes it think there's a pressure build-up caused by a blockage. I took the hose out of the J-shaped tube on the wall, and drained it into a bucket instead, then emptied the bucket down the sink. The lower position of the hose (and therefore lower hydrostatic head) when I did that seemed to be enough to overcome the fault. It's enough to get through the rest of the washing cycle anyway. I had this happen a few times some months ago, and was getting really fed up with this palaver, then it stopped doing it and has worked fine ever since (touch wood).

Dan, have you managed to drain the water out?

The only washing machine fault I have experience of was a blockage due to the user being careless and an accumulation of paper handkerchiefs / kitchen paper etc. blocking up an internal filter. Carefully tipping the washing machine forwards by maybe 20-30 degrees or so and leaning it against a wall / proping it up enabled quite a lot of pipework to be stripped down without flooding the kitchen. However, this was not easy, due to vicious clips holding everything together.

If you've emptied the water successfully and confirmed there is no blockage, then you're beyond my level of washing machine repair experience!

Managed to drain all the water out through the front filter and get the clothes out. Cleaned the filters out and thought that might be it.

Will try to give it a bit more of a thorough clean tonight and leave it off for an hour to see if it resets itself after that.

Looks like I may need to admit defeat and take up the Zanussi service plan.

Run a boil wash with Biological powder to clear the pipes. Zanussi stuff is not the best though. We have a built in dishwasher and it's cr@p.
