Ladies bike required

My wife is looking for a bike at the moment. She wants a ladies step through style (hybrid) which is reasonably light (alloy frame / wheels) and decend gear controls (not twist grip)...

We have been looking on internet and it looks as though we can get soemthing for 225 - 250 or so.

Are there any decent bike shops around locallly which could do somthing similar without changing us much more than the internet....I would prefer to buy in person as get the service !!

does gb's cheaper shop do this kind of stuff. Can't remember its name !!

I can't believe that you are considering buying a BSO (Bicycle Shaped Object) for somebody that you (are supposed) to love!

Good bike or nothing should be the mantra. A cheap bike will never be a bargain, 1 of 2 things will always happen:
1 It will sit in the shed gathering dust and decaying because "I don't like riding it. It's slow, heavy and just tooo much effort to ride it."
2 You will spend a fortune replacing the cr@ppy bits with decent kit, so you'll end up spending twice what you would if you'd just bought a decent bike to start with.

Finally, I'm told that the saddle is even more important for womens' cyling comfort than for mens'. Get her to try several. If the shop won't cooperate, find another shop. There's plenty out there.
