Beautiful steel Bianchi Dolomiti

I am posting this link for no other reason than it's a very nice retro bike:

Perhaps it's an age thing, but there's just something about steel frames. Still kicking myself for not buying the Master X Light GBs had in the sale last Crimbo. Italian bikes don't fit me but hey, what the hell...

yup, I agree the finesse of a fine steel frame is fabulous...
although I also have a soft spot for carbon composites too. :) but I'm a techie geek too.

A fine Italian or English steel frame is a thing of beauty. I still think a quill stem looks so much nicer too.

Get your bibs ready and prepare to drool by the bucket load.

Yes, my boss had that Gios once upon a time... it's pretty classy, I'll give you that.

hmmm, dunno personally I dislike the drilling, milling and filing on there. think it would have looked much more elegant without that.

I'm not a huge fan of drilling myself really, I just meant it as reference to the way everything used to be drilled to within an inch of it's life to save weight. Okay it way less aerodynamic, probably whistled like a flute in the wind, and made it structurally weaker, but it did save weight  .

The fluting on the Merckx chainset should have been picked out in orange.
The Gios weighs the same as my Lemond and has similar measurements. I wonder how they ride?

[quote="marco"]They are lovely. On a similar note does anyone know of any steel forks for my roberts that will take A-head stem and are reasonable value for money?

St. John Street Cycles have some for £30 or £40 depending on steerer tube size.

I turn my back for a few days and there's a retro thread up!

Nice chrome on the Bianchi, but the lugs are a bit plain for my liking.

GBs have had a rather tasty 54cm Merckx steel frame for some time now. In fact, it's been sitting there for so long that it's time George reduced the price.
