Wiggins was considered to have unfulfilled potential in the pro-peloton for pretty much all of his professional career to date. In many respects, he was the guy who won gold on the longer track events at will, who also did a bit of riding for his pro-team as a sideline. His focus has now changed to the road. He's clearly slimmed-down and can match pretty much the best of them on the hills too. He's finally pulled his finger out, done some proper road-orientated preparation and is now delivering the results on the road expected of him for a while. It's certainly a more plausible story than many....

He's really gone up in my estimation. I always found him a bit 'bland' when riding the track. His pre-race interviews now are superb and he is obviously fired up. Long may it continue!

He's gone from 82kg to 71.5kg in 11 months, when I get to 63kg, you'd better watch out!

GO TWIGGO!

What awesome riding, and GREAT to hear ITV 4 commentators letting the barriers down and shouting for Bradley.

Just amazing. I hope he recovers well today, there are some barsteward hard days coming up!

I'm glad they have a rest day too, I don't think I could take the strain either!

There was a bit of a comedy moment in the Phil and Paul Show though. Contador disappears up the road - it's all part of Bruyneel's master plan. Wiggins, Sastre and a couple of Schlecks follow - .... .

...just looks 57.

Wiggins is doing no favours to us testers who can't climb.

Er, well thats the thing. A lot of people like to hide behind the label of a climber, or a tester. But the simple fact of the matter is power to weight, I would argue someone like Contador makes ''you testers'' look even more stupid than Wiggo does...

I suspect power to weight is the dominant factor in climbers, but for testers (except on sporting courses) I'd place money on power to frontal area being more important.

It wasn't a serious comment  .

I think you'd find any professional would make any of us look stupid as you so eloquently out it Adam. Still can't work out what it is you have against TTers :? .

Nah, it's the pointy hat that makes us look stupid, and I'll be expecting you to wear yours this evening.

Absolutely!

Andrew, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against testers. My dig was aimed at anyone who hides behind the label of climber/tester/sprinter/puncheur (delete as appropriate), without accepting the reality of what they're actually capable of. Time trialling is all good, if you're competing with your mates, people who chase fast courses to say they can ride as fast as Armstrong, well, thats another matter!

Your right though, most pro's ought to wipe the floor with us. I was just highlighting that while Wiggins was a good example to back up your point, that Contador might perhaps be even more notable.

Yeah, your probably right, I'd broaden out frontal area to total drag though, there seems to be more emphasis on overall aerodynamics rather than just the smallest frontal area. I would still say that if two riders put out the same power, i.e 300w, the dude who weighs in at 60kg, will still go faster than the dude who weighs 75kg, on any course, even totally flat ones.
