Time trialling is all good, if you're competing with your mates,

well I think the general idea is that you're competing against yourself.
people who chase fast courses to say they can ride as fast as Armstrong, well, thats another matter!

yup. and much weirdness at a TT where I was discussing the time of someone who had clearly not completed the whole course but still had a time posted.

But how can you really compare times from different days where the atmospheric conditions will have a blatent effect. For example, we should have a tail wind on the return leg this evening, so some fast times perhaps? That doesn't mean anyone is neccesarily any fitter than they were for their last TT, does it?

Hence, a better gauge is surely how you compare to your mate on a certain night?

*unless of course your measuring your power output, then of course you'll know which night you were stronger. That said, you could put out more power and still go slower. It is a time trial afterall.

Yeah, of course. I reckon if you did a quick straw poll at a lot of TT's, that a lot of riders TT to beat their mates, and not so say that they've done a short 22.

I guess it just comes down to why you race a bike, I always thought the point was to go faster than everyone else, perhaps not. I blame the Government, and their 'you can't play games where somebody loses' attitude!

I've just been watching SBS (Australian TV) on a live feed. Now Evans isn't going so well they've decided that our Brad is basically an Aussie  .

Funny that, I thought he was Belgian.

Not that I want to encourage gambling or anything, but you can still get odds of 25/1 or better on Wiggins winning the overall. To me, that looks like good odds!

I wouldn't waste my money. :?

This tour is Contadors to lose, not Wiggins to win. As much as I'd love to see Wiggins on the top step in Paris it just ain't gonna happen.....though I have been proved wrong in the past though and I hope this is one of those times.

Can't see Contador making the same mistake as he did in Paris-Nice. Also we have stage 20 to go yet, the finish on top of Mont Ventoux. I can see Contador going on the attack and putting an end to anyone elses dream of pulling on the yellow jersey this year.

Whatever happens Wiggins can hold his head up high in what has been a fantastic tour for him, if he doesn't win it this year he'll be back next year for sure to put in a major challenge.

He did get rather worked over today....which is a bit of shame. Current odds at around 66/1, don't seem as attractive as those earlier today, given what happened. I'm not throwing my betting slip away just yet....but don't hold out much hope.

He did and indeed a great shame, still, he's still got the TT ahead though so lets just see what he can do there, might make saturdays stage an interesting one.

Why on earth do you follow cycle racing if you think its so corrupt?
Its a shame, Columbia and Garmin were showing so much promise in the earlier stages of the race, Wiggins AND VdV up there. Cav in the sprints. And where's big George H now he is on Columbia

Err - is it not obvious what happens to teams that show too much promise in the earlier stages when you get to the Alps in the 3rd week.
Hushovd is still so fresh at this late stage of the race that he can not only get over the Alps in front of the Autobus but instead today got over the early climbs faster than all the main GC CONTENDERS. He is amazing, when you compare him to the Columbia riders its A MIRACLE.

The GC riders dont race the first few climbs which is why Hushovd get over first and then lose 30mins.No miracle just clever riding.

I bet Wiggins power output was higher than Armstrongs today or at the very least equal. What does that make him? What drugs does Armstrong take to make him the best tactical rider.
The only thing I can think is that these guys train harder and ride on christmas day. They must have hearts 30% bigger as well. All that italian and spanish training advice must be well worth the money. Its an astonishing display in the final week.

Perhaps they train like this http://www.addiscombe.org/members/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=8268&hilit=fact

I personaly would love to have a coack like Dr Ferrari.

Absolutely, posting the facts and naming the riders is spot on and support it all the way, it is the speculation and the other fantasy stuff is the problem.

I hear what you say about Wiggins and Cav but I'm sure if you spent the effort you have done on your Lance crusade you will dig up a story of a man who's brother is a hotel porter that will swear that he saw a man in a lab coat leaving their rooms
