Something I don't understand - how can the best climber also be the best TT'er!!
don't make your answers too technical - it wont help.

I seem to remember that in the old days it was more of a battle between the climbers gaining times in the mountains and then the tt'ers trying to claw it back to decide the gc. Maybe they need to add other disciplines to make this more competitive - track stands, or skids or something.

Tomorrow looks good for an heroic but ultimately doomed solo breakaway. Following Jens Voigt's face-plant earlier in the week, who's it going to be? Millar (again)?

considering how badly Lance wants Ventoux - I don't see Wiggo gaining on Ventoux - Why not go ape sh@t tomorrow - nothing to lose!!

I am betting on the unwritten rule - ie for Christs sake chaps lets have a bit of a rest before the balls get dropped off the edge again on Saturday.

Doomed breakaway rider gets stage win is my vote.

Interesting how screwed LA looked on the TT today; not smooth, not cool, calm or collected. Wonder whether he will have it in the legs for Ventoux? Hope not.

GO TWIGGO!!!!

I've got a feeling Wiggo is going to get worked over by Astana in the next couple of days. He's in a really tricky position there having to attack Armstrong to go for 3rd but also having to defend against Kloden for 4th.

Whatever finally happens, Wiggo's done a Tour (and TT) ride to make us proud.

Another really good performance by Wiggo, especially as he has had a lot thrown at him by his fellow competitors over the last few days. Saturday will indeed be a great stage. Let's not forget Millar's ride today too!

One thing I will say in defence of Contador's unlikely performance is that he has had next to nothing to do on any stages of the Tour other than attack on a few hills - which he is clearly the best in the World at. He's not been under any real pressure from anyone at any point, so he would go much better at this point in the Tour than many may have been expecting. Having said that, I don't believe in miracles either. My experience of life, discussions with neo-pros, positive riders, etc. suggests to me that a large number of riders have been and continue to be artifically enhanced. That does taint my enjoyment of this spectacle, but I still think it's been a great Tour.

It was more a case of big fellas vs skinny fellas in the past. Marco's doom and gloom the World's on drugs ranting doesn't hold water as they always used to be on them in the past as well which would negate this argument.

A non-scientific wild stab in the dark I would suggest that the improvements in aerodynamics and concentration on TT position have been the biggest influence. A good climber will have a good power to weight ratio so if they can make gains in position and their aero and frontal profile they could close the gap. In the 80's say the TTs were more a case of just hammering it on a road bike so the big gear power men had a bigger advantage.
