Bike jumble sale for ACC??

Postby Alan M » Mon Jul 27, 2009 6:45 pm

An idea! I would like to suggest we have one in my garden. The details can be worked out but the basic idea is a bring and buy where we exchange and sell spare kit and parts. I could supply some refreshments and there could be a club donation box for successful sales

if you think you would like this to happen and see yourself supporting it some time towards the end of the season then post to this thread now!

I'm up for it, nice suggestion Mister M. Just going through a pile of bits n bobs at the mo so whenever you're ready :)

Assuming this goes ahead I'll give it a mention on a future Lanterne Rouge

Good idea, and generous offer.

No doubt I've got some stuff that could go in to a bring and buy, it's more a case of whether my hoarders nature will let me release them  .

Ok, so out of 144 views of the thread we have only 4 positive replies. Not overwhelming! On this response I am not sure if it is a runner??

I've got some old tat I'd like to palm off onto some unsuspecting punter.
Just depends when it is. When is "end of season" Alan? I'm guessing September/October.

yes, I was thinking of asking when we would be clear of racing commitments, maybe Sunday 27/9 0r 4/10, say between 2 and 6 in the afternoon. Anyone have any preferences or see either of these dates as difficult due to particular events or other club arrangements?

OK, time to make this a reality - a moderate number seem in favour and maybe more will become motivated. I am also happy to entertain non-ACC cyclists and your friends.

The date I have decided is Sunday 4 October between 2.30 and 5.30 in the afternoon. I believe there may be a hill climb that morning but this could be an advantage. You may leave goods with a recommended price any time after the club run on Saturday 3rd or Sunday morning. Depending on weather it will either be a garden or garage sale. If you just want to turn up on the day go to CR2 8BT and you will find a visible clue as to where we live - it won't be difficult! If you need to arrange to drop something off you need to PM me for an address and phone number.

I will provide / offer refreshments in the form of some weak cheap but cold beers, tea and cakes and you can stay and buy and sell bike bits or clothes or just chat as long as you wish (within reason)

I will ask Doug to put this on the news letter and I will put a notice on the (new) notice board and make announcements at the cafe

I really don't want to end up with all your old tat round my house so if you cannot attend but nevertheless want to sell stuff will need to leave a phone number attached to items and instructions as to price and I will do my best to negotiate a fair deal on your behalf. Unsold stuff will need to be removed within a week or will be disposed of!!

I am suggesting a 10% levy/donation of sale price for the club and maybe we can think of something specific to buy from the proceeds that will be to everyone's benefit - suggestions please

OK, have I left anything out? If it works out all to the good, if not it is no great loss. Happy cycling and I hope you find a bargain.
