You need to start at the front and really give it everything from the start. If you're confident in your cornering then you can still be up near the front for the hill. This is the tactic I employ, and although I slide back on the hill by starting at the front you give yourself some slip room. It hurts but you have to just keep burying yourself and driving as hard as you can over the top to keep position or move back up some of those that you slipped on the hill. Starting at the back you're miles away from the front by the second bend after the hairpin at the start and playing catch up from the start, which is even harder.

I do get dropped eventually but it takes a lot longer by doing this. The hill is also easier if you are within the pack as you get dragged up a bit.

Part of it is learning to push yourself that hard, it can take a while, but it is surprising just how hard you can keep pushing when previously you'd have thought you couldn't. It's tough as it means repeatedly hurting yourself and most of us have a natural reflex that makes you want to back off a bit when we feel pain.

I think you've come on really well this year Sean, you really put your mind to doing some hard rides and pushing yourself and its paid off. Keep going for the next 4 months then come out on the mid week winter chain gangs, they really put some speed in your legs and teach you how to dig in and suffer.

Palace was not fun, but in truth I threw in the towel way too soon and should've tried harder to catch someone.

Sean if you want to reconsider your decision to call it a season, I'm thinking of trying CP for the first time next Tuesday, I surely could use some company at the back
