Sunday Lanes - 30/8

Postby Andrew G » Wed Aug 26, 2009 12:56 pm

9.30am at GBs

Approx 50 miles (Croydon - Croydon) around some very quiet Surrey/Kent lanes. I'll be trying to remember a route to help fix it in my mind so it'll be a steady paced ride rather than a blast as I'd probably miss a turning, but bring a map that covers Woldingham to Westerham if you're not sure you'll keep up.

Possible cafe stop in Westerham depending on majority vote.

Had a bit of a break after a hectic few months racing, and then got bogged down with DIY every weekend. Keen to get out once or twice before the weather turns

I've seen Andy a few times of late on my commute Ant, although he's been cheating and on his motorbike sometimes  .

I'll be there. I appreciate that you probably don't know me but I have been wanting to try one of these Addiscombe 'splinter groups' for a while and when I did used to do the club run earlier this year I was on the 19's mainly so hopefully the pace should be about right for me. See you Sunday

I seem to have a few chores to do today, so I'm planning on coming out to play tomorrow.

Ended up a bit different to what I'd planned  .

Paul D, Mike, Ed, Andrew and myself at GBs for the off. We covered the first part of my route as intended, apart from a puncture for Mike, I hadn't planned that. They're great lanes and I was pleased to remember the way from Monday, happily logged in the noggin now.

Approaching Lingfield was trafficy as a lot of folk were making their way to the Country Show there, didn't hold us up as we just overtook it to the gate and then smiled smugly as it was then on the other side of the road. Don't know if it was this or just being pleased with myself for remembering the first bit but I had a blonde moment coming out of Lingfield and missed a turning for Dormansland. Don't really know how as I know that area very well, just not paying attention I guess.

This left us on the B road which we stayed on, and up a hill, to take us to East Grinstead. Fairly unpleasant run through EG with a couple of selfish and rude idiots in cars (have a word Marek they're lowering the tone  ) and picked up the road to Turner's Hill. Climbed up to Turner's Hill and went straight over for the run home. Going through Rowfant I recognised a nice lane so we went down there. At the other end I lost my bearings a bit and took the wrong road, it was actually the one I'd remembered from last time I was there except that was in the car so took us towards the M23  .

We went straight over and picked up the DC to turn off at Ifield and ride in to Charlwood. From there we just headed back the CR fast Redhill way as Ed needed to get back.

Thanks for the company folks, a nice spin even if a bit off intention from half way. You're never lost, just going a bit of a different way  . We were all riding together at a reasonable speed so a good little group.

Ta,

Andrew.

I've looked at the map now, and I think we should have (1) not ended up in E Grinstead or (2) turned right at Turners Hill or (3) gone straight over the A264 roundabout . We'll know next time.

An excellent way to spend a Sunday morning though, despite a puncture and some unintended new route reconnaissance. Thanks to all involved, especially Mr  for organinsing it and Paul D for the sartorial tips.

After 70 miles I dead-heated back at Ingram Towers with Mrs I returning from the shops - blowing apart her prediction that "Either I'll be home when you get back or I won't" .

I came speeding passed in my little silver micra on the A23 just before mersthden (I cannot remember how to spell it).

And thought for a moment I had a few squashed wasps on the windscreen, as I got closer I saw it was you guys in full ACC kit...

I gave you a little 'toot' but you all looked most confused and I think one of your even swore at me.

Well done for getting out, we drank too much nice wine and beer instead.
