Surrey League Handicap Championship - 6th Sept 09

Postby Keith » Sun Sep 06, 2009 9:20 pm

Keith Butler handicapped us into 6 groups, with me the 5th. 7 laps of a 9ish mile course.

Some steady thru 'n off with almost everyone taking part, but we we're caught within a couple of laps by the scratch group. I was still recovering after from going to join a small (doomed  ) breakaway and missed the split that occurred with a couple of laps to go on the one significant hill of the course.

Once we'd lost sight of the lead group the pace backed off for the remainer of the race. Come the finish Marcus went on a long one, NP moved into place to control the pack so I went after him, only to be caught by a few on the last hill.

At least I finished this year. Last year I punctured on the last lap whilst in the lead group.

Well done Steve. He'd enough energy left at the end to holler at me to get ar$e over the line.

That is a lot of dnf's were they punctures or was it just a toughie?

I think the pace was pretty high, with groups caught quite early. I guess some riders would have been shelled off the back and dnf'd.

Early doomed breakaway Keith, it must be the training rides you've been doing with Marek  . Vodka diet for the next race.
