Interesting article analysing two different blood profiles from 2 riders: MJ and BT:
http://www.localcyclist.com/2009/09/a-t ... -cyclists/

The telling paragraph is :
[quote]Are the riders clean? Did they dope? Certainly there is no sanctionable evidence. But consider the scenario that rider MJ and BT are not two different riders but the same rider at two different times. Does this scenario change your interpretation of the data?

.....because those two sets of blood values are indeed from the same rider.
I won't say who since it might upset some people

Armstrongs Haemocrit during the tour was average 41.96 ± 1.2% and the days it was higher appears to after rest days as well so I cannot see any evidence to indicate doping at all.

Wiggins was 44.9 ± 1.9 % which is deemed fine

As the link says, he is a student trying to make a name for himself.

Name any successful athlete in the world and I bet I could find some so called "evidence" that he/she is a cheat.

So he graduated as an "exercise physiologist". No disresepct to the man but he's no haematologist. Sounds like half the personal trainers you'll find in Cannons. And his phd is in detecting autologous blood doping. Obviously statisitics is not his strong point. To "prove" anything he would need many years' blood count results from his subject, and in LA's case adjusted for any residual effects from cancer treatment. Then compare this against a control group of athletes known to be clean and racing in similar conditions over the same period of time. That amount of data will allow calculation of t-tests, z-scores, and hence whether there are grounds for further investigation.

Footy tonight, Marco; will you be enjoying the game or worrying about the length of the players' studs and the pressure of air within the ball

I think the most damning evidence against Armstrong comes from the comparison of the Giro and Tour blood profiles.

Maybe it is possible that Hgb/crit can sustain itself over a 3 week tour, although all the evidence points to the contray.
Leaving this aside,Armstrong in the Giro has a decent Hgb level and decent Rectic (rate of making new red blood cells)count yet Hgb falls gradually as the Giro continues....as you would expect.

Yet in The Tour, we have a completely different trend :
Armstrongs Hgb stays more or less consistent throughout with, if anything, a slight upward trend.
Strange for a GT? Maybe .
But also, his rectic counts stays way low throughout the Tour.
Even if you can explain his Tour blood profile, somehow his blood is performing differently in the Giro to the Tour.
That, is rather more difficult to explain.

Like all of us, I am no expect in this matter but why would you expect his blood to perform the same?

The Giro had more difficult stages, Armstrong was not in top form and seemed to suffer more which I am sure would affect various systems in your body.

I was disappointed with the Tour as there were not so many hard stages and I can see why HGb would be more consistent.

I reckon whatever Armstrongs results were, they were going to be used as "evidence for doping".
