Club Run:12.09.09

Smiley John gave a shout for the the "training group" and the Shadow and another chap formed a two man queue. A few minutes elapsed and it was clear there were to be no other takers. The training group was quickly down graded to the 19's and a few more bikes began to wheel themselves in the shadow's direction. Some cocky North Londoner shouted out, "common guys we'll ride at 18mph if you want" and the group swelled to around 14 riders. Steve hit the A23 fairly hard and off we went in a nice long line. Someone shouted, "Easy" and after doing the traffic light dance we became a nice friendly bunch that rolled along at 20-22mph. This was inevitably broken up by the three lumps which as far as I was concerned were taken at 'training group pace' .A guy in pinky red top took the KOM awards.

A few more shouts to kept things together through Reigate and rotations were kept fairly consistent on the front. Matt put in a naughty surge just before the Charlwood turn off which put the hurt on a few legs and the rest of us ploughed on towards the dual carriage way. A certain Alan Marlakey looked on form and showed good strength to close a few gaps that opened up (still needs to spin a moderate gear a bit more me thinks  )...A quick explanation for newbies and a slightly tentative thru and off got going on the dual carriage way. Naturally the pace picked up in the final K's towards the Charwool sprint. After a few big turns I peeled off and left it to the rest of them to decide on the neuromuscular bragging rights. By the time we reached the cafe the general consensus on our average speed was a 21mph. ...I spent a few minute promoting the Road Race in the cafe and then headed back. I manage to catch up with Huw in cafe down the road from GB's which was cool. After 70 miles of riding omelette, chips and beans tasted pretty good. Thanks for the ride guys

Nice write up Toks. :D

I had a jolly out with the 18's as I was saving my legs for the Rusper race. Was a quiet affair really, the only excitement was catching the 17's who'd past us earlier as we waited for a puncture stop. I got beat in the sprint....by a bus

Run back was as usuall, kicking off after the re-group at the church, how I love the run back, flat out drag race back to CSS, a chance for me to stratch my legs a bit and go for it. :D
