Yes I think we are, but we may be covered as there are a number of members already CRB checked.

Anyone who is a coach or Teacher is already covered so thats Jon Camden, a few Phills, My self, Huw, Carole ect.

There are Huge grey areas and this is why its not been made law yet, its only plans.

but its a fair point and we must check the full details of it.

I will have a look.

It's a waste of time even considering this lunacy putative legislation. It would not come into operation until Nov 2010. Well before then, this imbecile Labour government will have been kicked far into touch.

[quote]The new regulations will mean anyone taking part in activities involving "frequent" or "intensive" contact with children or vulnerable adults three times in a month, every month, or once overnight, must register with the Home Office's new Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

All school governors, doctors, nurses, teachers, dentists and prison officers must also sign up.

This includes driving bunches of kids anywhere (which I seem to do all the time)

The next thing will be that all parents will have to register. I agree with you Roy, bring on the revolution.

You need a new CRB check for each independent activity, daft I know but it's true. As club welfare officer I've contacted BC to dig around what's available and what's needed/advised etc. I hope to hear the full details from them soon and will share it around. Getting CRB checked is easy enough and it's worthwhile. Were I a VC I would want this.

Cheers - Snoop

Snoop,

I am CRB checked for the work that I do at my kids school, I wonder whether what we do as a club would need a different check?

[quote="Sean Hogan"]Don't bother as someone else said the Govt will out on its ear whatever it does and whether we like it or not the Tories will be back.

Rejoice! Rejoice!
Here's hoping that pathetic, greasy-haired, nail-biting, economic-illiterate dissembling scruffbag excuse of a Prime Minister, Lord Mandybum, and the rest of those useless, NuLab scumbags are buried in obscurity for another 20 years. Bunch of useless to$$ers.

give the lib dems a chance!

I will be anyway as I can't vote for Labour as they currently are and I really don't think the Tories are the answer either.

Daft though it sounds, I do think you need a new CRB for each distinct activity. I'll keep diggin

They get my vote - always have. Check out our local (Carshalton) MP, Tom Brake. He's a good un, not perfect but I think he focusses on the right things for the right reasons. He has integrity.

Steady on Roy! Politics apart (and it should be for the purposes of a cycling forum) the proposed arrangements seek to coordinate existing information around child protection and add some further safeguards. As ever it serves the interests of the pundits against regulation and for selling newspaper copy to hype this up.

Child protection is a complicated and fraught area of legislation and regulation but it is salutary to remember that by far the greatest majority of offences are committed by those known to children and young people and often go undetected. That said, it is likely that more will be spelt out in guidance and voluntary organisations will have opportunity to voice their concerns and render such guidance helpful and reasonable.

Those cyclists that put their faith in the words of dear Matthew Parris have very short memories indeed!
