Damn once again thats terrible news. I thinks that about 7 deaths involving young women and trucks this year. As a London commuter I have noticed a lot more women cyclists which is great and the vast majority don't take crazy risks like men and ride quite safely. However there have been the odd ccassion when I've seen a few women pulling away from lights in big gears at a snails pace or negotiating turns quite gingerly. I'm wondering is the fact that its women being killed just a statistical thing. IOW most new commuters are women? Or is it a lack of zip in crucial moments or is that danger awareness factor that we all need to develop. Or simply a lack of awaness from the truck drivers?...condolences to her family and friends

As I understand it is because women tend to be more cautious that they get involved in this sorts of accidents. Women are more likely to stick to the inside of the road ie where we are generally supposed to be when riding along, whereas men will go around the outside.

It's a lesson I learned long ago when as a child I watched a lorry mount a kerb while turning left and left me thinking 'now if I'd been there...

It's still a sad occasion. I just hope it doesn't fuel another outcry for cycle paths...

Yes, apparently there have been 7 female cyclists killed by trucks this year (according to this tally from LFGSS).

I like the way that forum jumps into action to tackle issues such as these. I see they are organising a meeting (on Tues 22nd Sept) with various people involved in cycling issues attending, and many of the other participants volunteering their skills & experience. Among them will be someone whose wife (Catriona) was killed back in June, and he sounds determined to improve matters having spoken to TfL, Boris, etc. Good luck to them.

Please, please, please, no more push for cycle lanes - they are NOT the answer.

Story about someone in a car shooting at a cyclist on the Pilgrim's Way (yes, that road) - comments underneath, some idiot says something about the sooner cyclists have cycle lanes this sort of thing won't happen. Huh????
