"CYCLE SHOW SPECIAL EVENTS FOR WOMEN...

This year, the Cycle Show is increasing entertainment for women by putting on fashion shows, providing women-specific advice on nutrition, hair and make-up, route-planning, and information on leisure holidays for women.

There will also be a session panel of female cycling experts on the Cyclodelic stand, offering advice on choosing the right bike, customising your bike with female-specific accessories, and advising how to get the best bargains."

You can't beat a bit of casual gender stereotyping, can you? Presumably women-specific route-planning is the same as normal route-planning, but you are allowed to stop and ask for directions.

...as opposed to male-specific advice on nutrition, hair and make-up?

[quote]Is it really that bad if it encourages more women onto bikes?

I think Mike's point is that it shows the attempts to get more women into cycling are still a little cack-handed and patronising in a 'oh, and something for the Sheilas' kind of way.

I'll be showcasing my new invention: the rabbit saddle, available soon at all good bike shops and Ann Summers.
