More money for the TDF - yes (is why they did it)
Higher visibilty for cycling - yes
More to talk about on the TDF - yes
More opportunities to have a dig at LA - yes

Re OP agree with Alex. TdF is a business, LA is a big draw. Do the math, as they say in Texas

I read in the news the other day that they crashed a satellite into the moon to see if they can find water - imagine their suprise when they found a blood stained syringe with "Lance TDF09" written on the side of it - now that is evidence - his goose is cooked! :wink: :lol: :lol: :lol:
