[quote="Antloony"]Might join the LVRC soon and give you some company Alan. Old timers racing here we come :D

You would be in the AB group and they are pretty quick. It is cheap and well organised and seemingly quite varied. You would enjoy it.

To all over 40 agreables plenty of races you can do with the LVRC within a hours drive most Sunday's and cheap to boot.

Toks I am a Agreeable (second claim) and go out most Saturdays from CSS (even helped ACC win a few darts games, first win was good, beating, Keith Butler and the NP's!), just been with the Festival for more years than I care to remember, back in the Halcyon days of the 80's as a 1st cat for many years.

Anyone over 40 through to over 70 I would thoroughly recommend the LVRC, you can race against your peers as motivation to keep fit without getting a hammering from the youngsters each week!!

I particularly encourage all over 40 Agreeables to enter my races in October (with a pub social afterwards all ages welcome) looking for another Agreeable winner after George won my Surrey League promotion, maybe Alan or you Ant!

Today was the last of the races in this vets series. Double points. I haven't really done enough races with sufficient success to be in the running for prizes but managed somewhere in top 10 today. Colin was 5th in his race both riding and running the races in his first claim Festival promotion.

The race was on the Oakwood/Walliswood course near Ockley and is reasonably manageable except for a fast down hill 40mph on a bumpy surface that wasn't for the feint hearted. We also had to overcome a horse box dividing the peleton and several skittish horses on route.

With proper agreements I have resolved with Colin that we might jointly promote a LVRC race next year. It would be nice to see more Addiscombe faces riding the vets races and this might be a way to give it greater prominence. I reckon any regular 18mph club-run rider could have managed our 35 mile race today. Average speeds were getting towards 22mph but sitting in this was quite comfortable.

will post final results when they come through.

Well done to you and Colin. Like the sound of a joint promotion - nice one, and yes be good to encourage a few more into the mix. Excellent

My 2010 debut for this year's LVRC series was somewhat delayed due to travels, lack of fitness and weather issues. 2 of those are now less problematic but fitness is still something of an issue. At Bletchingly a few weeks ago I did 2 laps and on my 3rd hilly bit my chain came off and that was game over. I did finish the race, picking up a few others that had been shot out the back. In truth I think I would of struggled to keep in touch to the last ascent.

Today's ride on the Cutmills circuit seemed ok at first but there is a series of 3 hilly bits and, again on the third try up the hill myself and another guy lost contact. We formed up with 3 others who had fallen back before us and worked together to bring the bunch back - we got close but not close enough but it was a great work out and we were chasing at almost 40mph at times! The race was incident free and we all received a goody bag of gels, bars and creams from the sponsors.

Colin Bateman stayed with the bunch in his race today but found Bletchingly difficult. He has been doing Sportives in France recently and has won back some form.
I am still the sole Addiscombe shirt you'll see at these races and it would be great to get some interest from other 40+ riders. I believe Toks does some Hillingdon races. It is a relatively safe and cheap race format and you can trade down the age groups and race out of category if you want to start cautiously. Google LVRC and you'll find it easily.

I did one of these LVRC races back in April on a course based at Herriard (between Alton & Basingstoke in Hampshire). The event was well organised and the course was interesting.

The race I did was run in 2 sessions, with age groups D and above racing in the morning and A to C in the afternoon, but it looks as if most are run as combined events. The pace was certainly quick, particularly being in the oldest group that afternoon, but it was good fun to be racing on the open road and I intend to do more events later in the year. I might also try one of the LVRC events at Hog Hill as I have never ridden the circuit and it would be a good opportunity to do so.

The better question was how to get home! I was always going to finish in the bunch unless I crashed so that is what I did!
I am OK but have difficulty walking at the moment. Going back to casualty tomorrow am to check out cracked collar bone and change dressings. I took a hard hit when someone veered from the side and in front of me taking my front wheel away. I guess they may have reacted to something else, anyway, no chance to take avoiding action and when the group got up I was the last man not standing. I wisely insisted on an ambulance and luckily we crashed outside the hospital, 1 minute's drive! Bye Bye race fitness!

Chipped collar bone, badly strained thigh muscle, rash, some swelling and a deep elbow gash, but it hasn't affected my good looks! it was a very sedate race but kept attacking then slowing loads at the front. We were coming down a hill and it had slowed down to 21 mph and I think this caught out some riders who rejoined the bunch at speed squeezing in where there wasn't much space,
