Sunday Club Run

All,

It is time that we raised the idea of starting a ACC Sunday Club Run again. I quite like the idea of getting out on Sunday Mornings for an 'old school' type club run.

Nothing too fast, but just a chance to do some alternate routes and experience a few hills..

Anyone else interested ?

I would be interested. It will give those who cannot always make the Saturday CR a chance to get out witht the club. Also some Saturdays are a washout (like the expected weather this Saturday) and Sunday is supposed to be ok.

I'm in the same boat. I can't make Saturday Mornings to often these days..

Just seen Andrews Post for a ride on the 25th. I'll tag along with this, on this sunday...

It would still be good to try to organise a more regular ride...There was quite a lot of discussion on this earlier in the year, and now seems to be the time to get this going...

For general info to anyone, the rides I do on Sunday's I don't class as Club Runs. There isn't the always looked after and waiting element. Obviously if someone punctures then I stop, and a regroup at the top of major hills, but otherwise if you're dropped you're dropped and there isn't a cafe stop unless stipulated.

sunday rides good idea, same as you sats are difficult for me,i'll be up for joining you from november elmers end or whickam is a good meeting point for kent hills

What I'd really like to do is just explore a few different routes around Kent \ Surrey and perhaps accasionally do a more challenging ride. i definitely don't want to be tied down to the same route each week, and don't particularly want to do the same type of riding as happens on the saturday ride (i.e. big groups on a largely flat course and lots or rules)

In some cycling clubs, the sunday club run is an opportunity to just get out, spin the legs and perhaps recover from more intensive training rides \ races earlier in the week. Its also a good opportunity to visit a new places and see a bit of the countryside. There are quite a few cycling friendly caf's to aim for. I know penshurst and chiddingstone...

From a speed point of view. This is not supposed to be a training ride. As a result, the risk of getting dropped is likely to be less that the saturday rides..

I am quite up for doing a ride in a few weeks time. I might head down to brighton on a week on sunday, so perhaps we could go on the week after if anyones interested.

Great idea!
Other local clubs such as Dulwich paragon and london dynamo have sat and sun rides so why not ACC
Penshurst and back is a fav of mine with a stop in the tea rooms there,roughly a three hour round trip

I completely agree with Andrew even though I know some of the other comments have been made tongue in cheek

One of the main things that sticks with me from the last time this topic was raised is the fact that a Sunday club run is a commitment. If it is going to be done then it needs to be every Sunday, obviously leading it could be shared around, without fail so that people know they can turn up and it will be on. I would also say a rough estimate of time would be nice. For family men like me it is nice to be able to say that I will be in by such and such a time.

It will also be interesting to see where it meets up and time. I appreciate that we have members spread over a wide area so I would imagine something that pleases all interested parties may be quite difficult to come up with. Eg for me a meeting place such as Elmers End is pointless as the time I would spend getting there would be much better used to be an hour heading into the surrounding (for me) countryside. Saying that I am probably lucky in that there are several other Sunday club runs near me that I could ride with (if they are willing and happy to let me)

Personally, I'd back the system that used to prevail in my 1960s clubruns — Devil Take the Hindmost style is fine for some (not for me now, though!) But why any dilemma about what should or should not be the Sunday-runs routine? This Forum (a virtual clubroom discussion panel) is the solution. Just propose a run, start place-time, rough route, pace. If it's not left to the same small handful of proposers, there should be plenty of proposers.
