Super glue works!!

Postby jon avery » Wed Oct 28, 2009 11:55 am

Whilst riding into work this morning i rode over a piece of glass or metal not sure which, anyway it put a huge cut in my tyre, got through 2 inner tubes limping in, i remembered what Mr green  had said about super glueing the cut or tear together, and after deflating the tyre i did this and hey presto it worked :D cant even see where the cut was! Handy to know.

Last time I tried this it lasted around 30 miles before the cut popped open again. Turned out that super glue was just not flexible enough for that particular repair. Hope you have better luck.

Ended up putting a small square of old tyre sidewall under a tube patch on the inside of the tyre. The cut is still obvious but the tube isn't coming through and I've done a few hundred miles on it since the repair.

Wal, perhaps it depends on the size of the cut? or type of tyre?
Been using superglue for a couple of years to fix up minor cuts in all my tyres. works a treat.

It's fine for most cuts that you aren't big enough where you'd throw the tyre away.

The trick is to leave the glue to fully cure before reinflating the tyre to full pressure - it sticks in a couple of minutes but takes longer for it to cure properly. If it pops open Jon then re do it when you don't have to use the tyre for a day, 24 hours is normally long enough for the glue to fully cure.

And if it's a folding tyre, once you've glued the cut turn the tyre inside out to dry as this will force the edges of the cut tight shut.
