Ride with the Old Un's

Postby George » Wed Oct 28, 2009 1:31 pm

Yesterday I met up with Alan M and his bunch of retired mates for a pleasant 85 miles. We started off at Betchworth when the weather had just took a turn for the better and had a lovely sunny ride down to the Summers Ponds Cafe at Barnes Green, near Billingshurst for lunch.
Here we met with an earlier older group  and after us arrived a older older group

Very nice food and settings around a beautiful fishing lake with people camping and relaxing, it seemed to me this place was almost like paradise except with no Barbara Windsor :D I'd say a very nice extended clubrun alternative route that we must try one Saturday.

One the way back we headed through Ewhurst and up and over the Downs at Holmbury then all finished off with a cuppa atop Box.
These men are very fit for their age and the pace is around 18's with a couple of ding dongs on the hills etc.

They meet every Tuesday and Thursday and I would highly recommend a day off work for a great route out into the country.

Wish I had known George I would have joined you. Off all week because of half term and managed to find myself with not much to do so went out for an hour and a half tempo on my own. Have to agree about the weather I thought at one point that I was overdressed which is not bad for the the end of October :!:

It was good to have you out with us George although I think we may gave had the best of the weather.
I think putting photos up onto this site is a tad cumbersome. Why can't they just be uploaded like on a blog? That said George's happy smile was worth it!

Out tomorrow guys in case you feel like throwing a sickie or 'working at home' Off to Sumner ponds, Barns Green I think which is one of our nicest stops and Thursdays are 'easy' rides of about 70 miles at 16mph average. I will be passing Coulsdon Post office at around 9.10-20 am if you want to meet up, heading for Betchworth by 10am

pm me if you want to meet. Weather looks OK for tomorrow!

Quite fast today, averaged 17.3 overall but that included some slower sections and regrouping. 70 miles to High Beeches and back, mainly sunny and strong wind blew us home>
