London to Brighton veteran car run 1 November - CANCELLED

Postby Mike I » Tue Oct 20, 2009 8:40 pm

Sunday 1 November is the London to Brighton car run. For a slightly different trip to the sea, it's great fun to ride down amongst the old cars (and the odd penny farthing), have a bite to eat on the seafront and then train or ride back. The cars struggle up the hills a bit, so no need to worry about Ditchling.

I won't do this if the weather's bad, but otherwise plan on leaving CSS at 8.30am, with a view to being home before it starts getting dark - which might be about 4.30pm at this time of year.

The pace won't be crazy, but if you can't keep up with the 18s on the club run you might suffer a bit.

Post here if you're interested. Honk honk!

Weather's looking disgusting tomorrow, and I shan't be doing this if the threatened heavy rain and gales show up :( .

Watch this space.

I've just listened to the forecast and, for a fully hands-on meteoroligical experience, stuck my nose out of the front door. It's raining and a bit blowy. The met office is still predicting two inches of rain, dangerous surface water and 50mph winds on the south coast (that's where Brighton was last time I looked).

I really don't fancy this. There's always next year.

Good luck to all the drivers and crew in their (mostly open-top) horseless carriages.

Good call.

I did 3.5 hours today on my own, but wouldn't have fancied riding in a group in those conditions. Good fun still...

Vintage cars need mudguards. It was definitely windy out there yesterday morning.
