winter glove

Has any one used sealskinz as a winter glove on the bike,and are they any good ? I see that they are waterproof and windproof.

Don't bother with sealskinz my fingers still freeze using them
Go with the altura's as andrew mentioned,fantastic gloves

Silk glove liners are great, about ten quid from snow and rock or similar outdoor places. Silk liners and the altura's are all you'll need.

Cheapskates tip:

If you are out on a ride and find your fingers are geting colder than you would like, stop at a petrol station and pull a couple of the "Diesel gloves" out of the dispenser by the pumps. They are wind and waterproof. Your hands will sweat, and it will condense inside the gloves, but your hands will be warmer.

Hi Rob,

I have the sealskinz and I have
to say they are rubbish. Firstly they do not keep the cold out, wore them last year on a commute and my hands got so cold I felt physically sick.
Secondly they keep the moisture in and do a good job of promoting smelly finger rot.
Thirdly the fingers are so tight you will need to be a piano player to wear them.

there seems to be a lot of waterproof gloves on the market now. I would shop around if thats what you are after and get something breathable.

Well it looks like the sealskinz are out.I do have some thing similar as the Altura with the base layer inside but when i pull my hand out of one of them the liner on the outer glove pulls out with it and its not easy it push back in.

I use Gore windproof gloves which are light enough to still feel the bars but warm enough for most weather. I would say they are good down to 4-5deg, lower if you use a silk type liner glove. They're good for 30mins of rain. Any more than that and I would head home anyway.

Gloves are one of those things you have to buy in a shop. The fit and feel is too variable.

Hi Rob,

Had the Altura as well and yes the liner annoyingly turned itself inside out everytime they got washed and it took half an hour to get my fingers in the things. Good gloves though when they worked before they finally fell apart through all the effort of pushing my chubby fingers into a twisted liner.

Perhaps the CEO of Altura can join his mate at Sealskinz washing up. On the other hand if you pardon the pun these guys need this kind of feedback. Oh if Mr sealskinz is reading this. Great socks.

How much and when are the Rapha sample sales sean?
i bet its still cheaper and just as effective to buy and use the gore under gloves and ultura waterproofs
As much as i like the look of rapha its just waaay overpriced!!
