I'd be interested mate. When you say, "don't need brilliant lights" all I have is a 5 led front light - is that not enough?
If not, what do you recommend? (preferably cheap so the kids don't end up with a lump of coal for xmas!)

As long as they're bright enough so you can see the doggers that's all you need

Would be interested but timing is tricky after the ride home, bike switch, wanting something other than an energy bar for my dinner. I'd like to do the odd one, probably pick you up my side of Lloyd Park, but it would have to be as and when I could get there in time.

Went riding near friday street got completly lost and chucked them in the loft but they back on charge willing to give it another go.Just post details and ill see if i can make it. Any day is normally ok, earlier in the evening is better than later for me.

I just bought an expensive light on a whim. I suppose I should use it to justify the purchase to my wife.

What sort of length of ride are you talking about?

(Also, wouldn't it be much more convenient and scenic to start from Tattenham Corner :D )

I would be interested if you don't mind me tagging along.

I have done a few this autumn with Aodan - that was on some trails around Banstead and Epsom downs. It was real fun - there's something really exciting about going out riding in the dark. (The doggers at Epsom Race Course car park probably say the same thing as well!!)
I managed those trails in the dry, but have no idea how I'll cope now it's proper autumn and getting a bit damp and slippery underwheel.

Not sure how good I'll be on the East Croydon trails in the dark, and you might have to slow down for me. (Aodan's recovery ride pace is about the same as my fast pace!)

7pm could be do-able, but a bit tight - would probably prefer 7.30. I can't say what day I prefer as there's always something going on, so would just fit things round and will turn up whenever I can.

Let us know what you decide.

[quote]Ok, got two and a half shows of interest on facebook already (Mo is the half as he's only given it a thumbs up rather than a "when do you start?" !)

OK I'll ask "when do you start ?" rather than give a "thumbs up".........so count me in as another "half".

I wouldn't have thought so - if you are on proper off-road singletrack, you need to see any obstacles in your path imo (without too much in the way of shadows) Sadly Butler's don't appear to sell the Smart lights any more, although I found them here :

http://www.leisurewheels.co.uk/products ... 3563&rs=gb

They are heavy, but they do the job. Unfortunately decent lights from other makes are ridiculous money imo.

If they hold the charge after 10 years I will be well impressed.....specially if they have exposed to the extreme heat and cold of years in a loft.

What day of the week are you thinking of Marco. Have good lights but haven't been on night ride for years! ;-)

There are several sellers in Hong Kong flogging a 900 lumen(!) LED light (brand 'Magicshine') on eBay from as little as £65 inlcuding delivery. For comparison, a Nuke Proof light using the same SSC P7 emitter costs £250, which to me is unfathomable.

Last year I bought a 200 lumen LED light from Hong Kong on eBay for £30 and use it for my commute. It's the best light I've owned: virtually indestructable (unlike countless overpriced Cateyes I've been through with their flimsy bike mounts and crappy switches) and exceedingly bright for a commuter light, but not quite bright enough for serious offroading, IMO.

I'm seriously considering getting one of these Magicshine lights from Hong Kong; if I do I'll be joining you on night rides, for sure. Thursdays are fine for me.

sounds like a good light, don't forget to add in excise duty and VAT to the price when considering a purchase! I would like to go one one of these rides but not sure about the times etc so I may turn up one evening.

Right, just ordered the 900 lumen Magicshine LED light from Dealextreme for £50 including delivery. Judging by the reviews I've seen this is an incredible light for the money, comparing favourably to others that are 4 times the price. Can't wait to try it out!
