Have you got your Christmas decorations up yet?

Postby Andrew G » Fri Nov 20, 2009 1:39 pm

On my way home last night I saw my first set  .

Riding up through the Glades from Elmers End to The Shirley/West Wickham cross roads towards the top I spotted them.

There's a boat in the garden with fairy lights on it and one of those huge illuminated and inflatable Father Christmases. I suspect that this is mearly phase one of the erection as if they have a Santa like that in their garden on 19th November I somehow doubt that's all that'll be there. I'll give them the weekend to finish and take a picture on the way home on Monday if it's worth it.

Shops are early yes, but any domestic ones beat that? there's normally two or three chavtastically decorated drums down this road in the festive season.

I saw one Christmas tree on my way home yesterday. Actually, someone had put lights on the tree in their garden, but I think it still counts. Had it not been mid-November, it would have been quite tasteful. Fear not though. Once the giant inflatable snowman goes up a few roads down from us, I'll post a picture (and then take my multi-tool to it  ).

She gave up on dating after that, and changed her name.

Can't think why you didn't hear anything Marco, although perhaps she's behind the card in the Peaslake bus stop advertising water snails for sale (only 5p each I think) so maybe you should call the number and see if you can have that Cilla moment.

New Addington is also "good" for these ever so slightly OTT decs. There used to be one at the end of a road where in addition to all the illuminated Santas, snowmen, sleigh, reindeer etc in the garden they had rigged up a trip switch and a sound system. When you walked passed the end of the garden path you broke a beam and one of the Santas started swaying, music played and he sang you a Christmas tune. It really was something to witness, but it hasn't been there the last couple of years so either they moved or couldn't afford the electricity.

More likely the lamp post oustide their home was knocked over by a drunken relative in a stolen car which has put an end to the free electricity.

Well the early starter on my commuting route didn't live up to my hopes, however for something special take a visit to Erskine Road in Sutton.

I was there for the darts last night (which we won) and as soon as I turned down the road there were loads of lights on houses, it was more a case of which didn't have them.

The winner without a doubt was a house near the end so I thought I'd share it with you.

Nice one Andrew - a win against East Surrey is no pushover - good work. And yup - plenty of fextive light guffery here in Sutton/Carshalton/Wallington. Stuff the copenhagen summit - just turn off a fe wli9ghts round here and voila - it's sorted!

[quote="marco"]I once took a girl on a first date driving around New Addington looking at all the Christmas decorations for the evening. Very pleasant as you get some pretty extravagant displays up there. Nice girl she was too, good card player and quite an authority on water snails. I wonder what became of her, didn't hear much from her after that.

I took my wife to see the decorations tonight in New Addington and.... she's still here. How long do I have to wait Marco for her to leave?
If she doesn't, have you any other recommendations of places I could take here.
