Out doing my own long steady ride this morning, although I rode with the 18's for a while. Nice to say a brief hello to the Shadow, Adam & Dave.

Why not just go out with the 18's? Well in the brief time I rode with you, pace varied from the best part of 300W on the rise past Rusper golf club, to less than 100W two minutes further along the road. This'll be why you feel off the pace on the hills Amy.

Hey, I said hello! You complained that nobody else did!

Anyway thanks for giving me another excuse for being off the back :D You'll have to explain it to me in layman's terms. It was a bit of start/stop on the ride today, I admit but it's the feeling in my legs that I'm going by :? I can push so far but on the hills or if the speed goes over what I'm comfortable with, I can't find the strength to find that extra push, my legs just go dead. I'm pretty sure it's because I'm not fully up to strength after two years' muscle weakness which left everything a tad flabby (for me) but I'll be back - I'd better

Its called training, do some and you'll go quicker. Also power to weight, so eat less and you'll go up the hills faster. Its pretty simple really. Those are the only free tips you'll get from me, if you want more I charge £30 for every 30 minute consultation.

Cheers

Sorry Amy, you too. I have to admit I was surpised how many of the rest of the group rode as if nobody else existed.

OK, lets get one thing straight - I don't do 'training'. I ride. I got up to the 19s just doing the club run and I'll do it again.

And are you saying I'm FAT

Don't expect miracles then if you don't do anything else but the clubrun. Why do you want to go up a group, if you don't train then surely you should not expect to improve. Are you sure you'll do it again, you ain't getting any younger you know....fatty.

Well I think the girl done good. Riding in ever faster groups seems good training to me, and is what I do. But then what do I know? I also got to the 19s just doing the club run, and used it for a lot my etape and Dragon training. Surely a group above your normal one counts as training as you're riding outside your comfort zone? One week I'll join the training group for a laugh (everyone else's that is). Maybe I'll last until the first roundabout or set of lights on the A23.

Agree on that score. Considering Amys gone through a really horrible illness in the past 2 years I think she's regaining her strength really well.

Its well known I do little more riding than the clubrun yet its never stopped me from turning up and joining in the fun and games with the training group. I worked my way up from the 17's to the TG in less than 6 months doing nothing more than the CR. The CR is a good stepping stone for Amy and anybody else wishing to improve by using their saturday mornings in good company to push themselves a little harder than they would normally. Nothing wrong with having the goal of trying to ride up through the groups.

Marek, you've made two (potentially) fatal assumptions:

1- you assume everybody is obsessed with racing (or training).
2- (and most dangerous) you assume that everybody has the same level of talent as you. Amy has used the clubrun only to get to impressive levels of cycling performance before, and may well do so again. It may just be that she is more naturally talented than you  .

I, on the other hand, would need to train seriously in order to lose the weight necessary for me to be a good climber.

If power to weight ratios were everything, how about losing some of that unnecessary height, lanky  .

1. No I don't, I was giving Amy free advice to help her in her desire to go up hills quicker, which is what she was asking for. Don't know why I bother being so nice.
2. Nope, don't think I have ever assumed that, I just try to keep myself in shape, in relation to talent, am sure that there are significantly more talented cyclists in the club than me, when I would actually say that talent is more to do with handling of the bike etc. Being able to get up hills quick has nothing to do with talent, it is to do with training and power to weight oh and the amount of blood boosting drugs you can pump yourself up with.

And yes, if I could lose some height it would make my life, in terms of hill climbing, a hell of a lot easier, although only issue is that leaning across the bar and getting served quickly might become more difficult.

Cheers

All these tips on improving your climbing, Amy, Don't worry, you'll never fall off the pace as quickly as me. But then, I have the excuse of playing the Old Card. And you're still young and beautiful.
