[quote="Roy Green"]All these tips on improving your climbing, Amy, Don't worry, you'll never fall off the pace as quickly as me. But then, I have the excuse of playing the Old Card. And you're still young and beautiful.

And you're such a charmer, Roy :D Cheered me up no end :D

Anyway, I think Marek now understands things better and where I'm coming from so hopefully all that's left is for me to get out there and keep working on getting stronger again 8)

Being able to get up hills quick has nothing to do with talent, it is to do with training and power to weight oh and the amount of blood boosting drugs you can pump yourself up with.

So if I were to lose weight, and maintain my ability to produce 320W I'd be able to climb as well as super-clean 'Bertie Contador, never-failed-a-drugs-test (a lie, btw) Armstrong, or Robert Miller can/could ? I don't think that's very likely, do you? Raw talent must have a significant effect, otherwise every athlete would perform to the same level.

Only if you could get your weight down to 53kg (8.5 stone approx in old money)

Meanwhile, back on the club run...

Definitely echo Ed's and Ant's thanks to Rob for sorting us out an excellent route. A change is as good as a rest, although I found it tough in places and the 'rest' bit had to wait until about 1pm! Great conditions, company and route - very agreeable.

Not sure what Geoff H put in his tea at the caff, but led the return at a pace that I couldn't match - just like school : must try harder.

Thanks all - a v good morning out

Best ever. Late start as Mrs Dombo hadn't ironed my kit and "forgot" to put the water on for my boiled egg, so I cunningly waited by the Merstham roadworks chokepoint to join a suitable group. Ride was made doubly enjoyable by being able to keep up with Dave K and Adam, and hold normal conversations with both. Though Dave was weighed down with mudguards and a powertap while Adam appeared to be soft-pedalling much of the time.

Hope Mrs Dombo also 'forgot' your dinner, to run your bath etc...

It was getting easier on that ride though as mentioned earlier just didn't have the push to hang on up the hills. Thanks to Keith though for towing me back on before Partridge though I lost the wheel again when Ed's friend decided to play switchback with the last few riders in the group.

Couldn't hang on to the group heading back so gave up at Meath Green but still managed to leave some of the other stragglers behind on the golf course and up the Merstham drag. Felt stronger than last week though so will keep going on the good old steel winter bike and put you all to shame on your light weights.

PS Dombo, Adam was on his racing bike...

I think the scientific term for raw talent these is Vo2Max. If you are clean then your vo2max will show you the upper limit of your potential.
As Greg says - The numbers don't lie!

There is much more to natural talent thatn just Vo2 max, utimately, you still have to be able to pump the blood and push the pedals hard enough.

Actually that is my training bike...
