Q: Who ate all the pies?

Postby Jon H » Tue Dec 22, 2009 4:54 pm

A: Oil rig workers.

It's official, the HSE says so:

[quote]Lifeboats which meet the SOLAS requirements are normally based on an average weight per person of 75 kg. However, a survey conducted by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) in 2005 has shown that the average weight of persons travelling to UK oil and gas installations has increased substantially since a previous survey in 1984.

Is there any evidence that their weight has shot up at a faster rate than that of other fatties, then?

Wouldn't fancy that oil-rig lark for a game of soldiers, though. Was at Esbjerg airport once, and saw a group of oil-rig workers fly in, clear the airport shop of porn mags, and fly out again. It seemed to bespeak a rather grim existence :(

So, Pukka Pies sponsored the recent UK Open snooker champs and promised to award the winner his weight in pies (as well as £100,000)
Ding Junwhi won it but as he tips the scales at a miserly 71kg, concealed a full set of snooker balls in his coat at the weigh-in in order to consolidate the maximum amount of pies. This blatant act of cheating was discovered by the tournament organisers but Ding was awarded the extra pastry and meat as he revealed that said pies were being donated to a charity (presumably not one where eating disorders are prevalent) of his choice.

70's giant of the sport, Canadian Bill Werbeniuk was said to be furious that a) "We never had prizes like that in my day" and b) the pies were given away rather than consumed on the spot at the awards ceremony.
