New Year's Day

Postby Grahame » Tue Dec 29, 2009 11:06 am

There's a classic car event at Brooklands that I quite fancy going to. I just haven't worked out how I'm going to get there.

Options are:
1 Ride (with an agreeable group?)
2 Take the classic Citroen DS (only really an option if there's no snow on the roads)
3 Let the train take the strain
4 Be a wuss and take the modern car.

So, who's up for going to a dismantled race track to look at some silly, old cars? And who's up for a bike ride to get there? Or who would like a lift in the DS?

Ride would leave East Croydon station at 9:30am (route to be decided).
DS (or modern car), if it goes, would meet passengers (up to 3 seats available) also at East Croydon station at 9:30am.

Right, the current plan is to go in the DS, picknig up Sylv and his dad in Croydon on the way.

Currently planning to stay at the event for a couple of hours, including a look around the museum and a spot of lunch. May go on to the cross race at Herne Hill for the afternoon to watch VCL's Madison Cross promotion.

Room for 1 more in the car. Post a reply here if you want to come along.

Thanks to Grahame for taking us to Brooklands today in his beautiful and super comfy car. Also good to see Sylv again post op and meet his Dad.

I've never been to Brooklands before and if you like old cars and planes, and also bikes then it's a great place to go. I knew a bit about its motoring history but not the level of aeronautical history or that it was used in the 30s for cycle racing, as well as the car and plane sheds there's also a bike shed with some smashing old bikes in it. I'll definitely have to make a trip back for a more thorough look around and a trip on the Concorde Experience as today was a lot about all the cars folk had brought out.

A few pictures for a flavour (Grahame's car deliberatly left out as it's an open forum viewable by nasty types).

Some of the cars people had brought out in to the sun.

The rather tasty 24 litre Napier Railton

Which has some serious suspension

Concorde's pointy bit, close up the plane looks surprisingly small and is unbelievably thin and delicate looking.

From the bike shed. Do you break chains with your strength? Try this one then (although the gear looks a bit small), a one inch pitch jobbie.

Clearly Die cast models Sylv!!
As long as you have the same legs you should do well. Even after your operation...

Thanks for sharing the photos Andrew. Even if Grahame's Citroen DS doesn't get a look in. Might have to organise a trip of my own out to Weybridge some time...

I've no problem with that idea.

In the meantime, here's a link to some other pictures of it:

I think it's insured for about £125,000.

And yes, that is a comma, not a full stop.

[quote="Sean Hogan"]What's the problem with showing Grahame's DS? Just photoshop out the reg and your done, unless of course you snapped it outside his house.

Grahame's decision to make, not mine. It's not worth it really just the pair of them full frontal  .
Nowhere near as good at the pictures Grahame has linked to anyway.
