snow again!

Postby kieran » Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:14 am

A bit bored of it now, but still managed to cycle to work, went through a lovely snow covered dulwich park, this time I remembered to take a camera so I will upload pics tonight when I get home. Sitting here at work now, with the heating broken  so at my desk it is 13C (at floor level) and 14C at desk height :( . Should have stayed at home but forgot to take my laptop home last night!

Kieran, isn't there still a minimum temperature for working conditions?

At least the snow makes even placees like London look pretty but I'd rather be at home watching it...

Mum and Dad sold our old sledges - and I mean old - at least they're getting some use!

Workplace health, safety and welfare. Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992. Approved Code of Practice:
[quote]The temperature in workrooms should provide reasonable comfort without the need for special clothing. Where such a temperature is impractical because of hot or cold processes, all reasonable steps should be taken to achieve a temperature which is as close as possible to comfortable. 'Workroom' means a room where people normally work for more than short periods.
The temperature in workrooms should normally be at least 16 degrees Celsius unless much of the work involves severe physical effort in which case the temperature should be at least 13 degrees Celsius. These temperatures may not, however, ensure reasonable comfort, depending on other factors such as air movement and relative humidity.

So there you go Kieran, better do a bit of severe physical effort to warm up.

How I wish I had cycled to work this morning, just spent 6 hours on a train that did not move. Got stuck between Dormans and Lingfield. What a nightmare, 1 inch of snow and game over. 6.36 train to London Bridge, terminated at Lingfield, which is about 4 miles up the track at 12.30pm

Cheers

Marek....

Bloody hell Marek, glad I rode in (second day on the bike since early december).
Same chaos on the road, one big traffic jam all the way to London.
Consider yourself lucky Kieran, it can get up to 26c here - unfortunately no upper limit in the H&S law ..

Desk top temp has risen to 15.5C yea!

Hi Sylv, sadly I get that in summer time, my desk is in a corner of our office floor with floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides so we get cold in winter and hot in summer, although this summer I managed it ok, just was really sleepy with the blinds closed and the temp hovering around 26C.

Years ago I worked in a kitchen in St Katerines docks (spelling?) in tbe basement of a building as a kitchen porter and temps reached 40C and over due to the large ovens on the go. I drank a lot of water and iced coffee (fancy a pint of iced coffee?) that summer. Still wasn't as bad at the pot boy whose job was to scrub the pots and pans by hand in a small room with a sink full of hot water.

I rode in this morning arriving at The Grosvenor House Hotel Ballroom by 6.30am. The snow was really coming down then and even on the main roads I had to stay out wide in the wheel tracks to keep traction.

Milkwood rd Herne Hill a van had spun round on the ice at one of Lambeths new road calming measures

You should try my office - every afternoon it's a fight to stay awake while my eyeballs feel like they've been rolled in sandpaper :(

Other people then say they're cold

Overheard a conversation someone was happening about the weather. They were saying it's gonna snow on Wednesday.

Surely not :x :x
