B standard chaingang ?

I know all this training business makes us sound a bit serious but, well, some people really are into this bike lark so feel free to talk about all training & self improvement related topics in here

[quote="Amy"]Oh go on then... If I can't keep up I'll have got out at least :|

I've only made a couple of the chaingangs in the past due to the timings, and tagging it directly on to the commute and doing it with a pannier on makes life a bit harder too :) .

The couple I did were with Paul, Stu, George, Dominic, Marcus.......needless to say I was dropped like a dirty rag. If you do get dropped Amy then depending where it is then it might be worth carrying on and turning early to try and time it to pick others up on the way back and re-join the chain. One of the ones I did a couple of others were dropped at a similar time so we did a 3up mini-chain over a shorter distance instead. A good workout whichever way things work out.

Great advice once again Andrew, thanks.

Its not going to be a mad flat out effort from the start. Suggest we roll out of CSS and up the tempo nice and easy to make sure everyone's comfortable before winding it up once we get down towards Gatwick. Can do minute turns on the front or less if you struggle (or just sit on the back for the ride) before peeling off and having a breather. As Andrew says if you really do struggle just turn back and easy peddle till we catch up with you again.

Hope to see a few new and old faces tomorrow :D

If its raining/sleeting /gales at about 6 tomorrow I presume we all go back indoors and think better of it.How bad does it have to be to cancel ? I don't want to be a wet billy no mates at CSS .

Well looking at the forecast on metcheck and the bbc we should be ok. Meant to be dry all day tomorrow which means the roads might have a chance to dry out which will mean we'll be more comfortable than being splattered with spray.

Perhaps one of the strong guys will give me a push on the hills :D

Also if we start out steady, I can get warmed up properly and will ride better.

Anyway, I'm all ready to get out there - just what I feel like at 6pm as I roll indoors and wonder what the hell I'm doing will be another matter...

Don't think I can make it tonight as I don't have a babysitter. All I would say is don't wait for me.

Can there be a C standard chaingang?

I think I need to put in a bit more training before trying that again.

Wondered where you'd got to Phil. Sorry you found it a bit to much. Don't think your were on your own though were you. Amy and Lee were among those that vanished as well. Was the pace really that to quick at the start, be nice to have a bit of feed back.

Good ride tonight, Nice to see Andy E, been way to long mate, still going well though I see. Matt and Rob were also going well. We were joined by a NP rider which made things more interesting. I was ok having had 3 weeks off the bike though I didn't drink enough pre-ride and started to cramp up quite bad on the way back so dropped off the pace with Ben on the Merstham drag to give my legs a breather. Hopefully recover for saturday.

Cheers guys.

No worries Ant. I teamed up with Amy and we rode down to the roundabout with the petrol station on it. Expected you guys to catch us on the way back.

I think it's just me that warms up slowly - it takes me a few miles before I feel like I'm firing on all (both) cylinders. Maybe I should take a longer route to CSS

I'll do it again. Maybe after a couple of weeks more actual cycling though.

Nice one Phil, not a waste then as you still managed to get a few miles in. Glad to see it hasn't put you off.

I averaged 19mph door to door though did ease of the pace a bit at the end but that's the kind of speed the B group aims for .

I didn't realise the 'B' was a prefix to bloody fast .
I really enjoyed the ride - assuming I was on the right course. I was on my own for the journey down so I followed the A23 straight to Gatwick , rode past the drop off point and came back the same route. I teamed up with Paul on the return and he wasn't entirely sure of the route either. I'm not sure what I averaged speed wise but from CSS and back again was about one and a half hours which as a novice I was quite chuffed about.
See you next Thursday.

I didn't come along because I knew the Loon and co. where going to be fast. I didn't want to ride on my own when I got dropped. Will be along next week (I'll ask permission now - see LeeS other post) and maybe will ride with anyone else that gets dropped. So there can be a C group split so to speak.

See you next week :D

Just a tad too fast for me going out of CSS. At the mo I'm ok up to a certain speed but after that I just can't seem to find the legs to push. Though if I keep working it at it and come out and keep trying to keep up, hopefully I'll push that level up and up. I know it won't be overnight but I wish it'd get a move on :(

I'm also like Phil - I've reckoned in the past that it takes me about 20 miles to really get going  At the moment, I feel that the stamina's there but not the strength and the speed :(

Not sure how far you go down but Phil and I got to the big roundabout with the petrol station in the middle at Horley and I suggested turning there. I did try and suggest that we could ease up and soft pedal but Phil was still going for it and I thought I'd stay with him, well most of the way.

I thought Lee might be the next victim of the A chaingangers and hoped that you might have looked after him seeing as it was technically his first time out with the club...
