Guilty verdict for driver

Pleased to see a guilty verdict on this and hope a sensible sentence is given. Drove in to the back of him while he was racing and [quote]claimed she could not remember hitting Maj Rhys-Evans and only realised she had knocked him over when she heard a bang and saw her windscreen was smashed.

Has to be dangerous driving, careless driving is when you bump into someone else's car in Tescos car park, not wiping someone out and not even seeing them on a DC.

I agree, what the hell was she doing, not to see somone until they get splattered across her windscreen??

Unfortunately, as I understand it, it's more difficult to prove the charge of dangerous driving as the charge of driving without due care and attention...

I too am glad the guilty verdict has been reached in this case. Although it is always very sad when any motorist is killed due to the lack of care by another road user. As has been said usually the charge is careless driving especially when it comes to the death of a cyclist.

Having only started cycling on the road since May of last year I encounter too many motorists who seem to think cyclists are insignificant and they continually get away with intimidating and scarring us using a lethal weapon.

Having lost a friend 18 months ago to a lorry that jumped a red light and drove over him and then only to be found guilty of careless driving and receiving 3 points, this case is a little more than pleasing that the correct verdict has been reached.

Under those circumstances she has to have been texting, fiddling around with a CD, looking for her fags or some such to have ploughed into this bloke like that.

She'd be able 'to live with herself' a lot easier - and make it easier on the bloke's family - if she came clean and owned up to exactly what she was doing. Hope she gets a long sentence.

What the hell wasshe doing then at 70mph???

She's also beened banned from driving for 2 years - now is that after she gets out or while she's in prison?

I like the police comment ' that the case should "send a message to drivers across the country" to pay attention when they are behind the wheel.'
