You could go to Roberts or Witcomb's and get one made for less than that. Depends how much of a hurry you're in, and what materials you're after, etc.

the only reason i didnt get one is because back in the day...i didnt want red and white as i wore yellow acc kit!!!

How about Sylvain's rather lovely Sunn Titanium for £750 with complete Ultegra groupset?

OK, it's a 54cm, but it's got to be worth a test ride. If I can sell my Basso, I'll buy it off him, and I'm sure he'd rather keep it in the Addiscombe "family"

It may not be too small - even though it's a 54 it seems to have a long top tube...Sylv says 'effective top tube' is 56. You could always get a longer seat pin to raise your saddle, so if the top tube length is right for you you could be onto a winner. I'd say it's worth taking a closer look.
