sean, i'd rather do this for 500 sovs (though, admittedly without the 'luxury') and spend the rest on a new bike to do it on!

And probably be a bit more fun "roughing it", but like the new bike idea

hey, they thoughtfully give the route details - print it out and do it on the cheap, it's the cycling you should be going for, not the accommadation.

Touring bike (cross bike with racks), tent and sleeping bag. (already got, so £0)

BA flight to Pisa on 1st May = £48, BA flight back from Rome (an extra day's ride to get there) = £73

Campsites, £10 per night (8 nights, £80 total).

Food £25 per day to eat well in OK restaurants (8 days, £200 total).

Map £5.

I reckon you could do the tour yourself for about £400 all in. And you wouldn't have to put up with a bunch of insufferable Rafa-types   .

£2500 for 810km, that's just over £3/km.
I'm sure you could hire a taxi for less than that and avoid all that tiring pedalling.

I have to question the morality of the Rapha concept.

That said if I rode for them, I'd be rubbing my hands that people are foolish enough to do stuff like that!

Feck me they really are taking the urine.....the worrying thing is there are people that will pay it. Whatever next, 5K for a wet weekend in Skegness including a fish supper by the sea front. Idiots.

I was in Skeggy twenty years ago and won't have a word said against it. If you like your girls big , brassy and think charm comes in a bag of chips and a Fosters then you can't go wrong. Unless you are like my mate who's a bit fat.

Or £20 to ride HOA on local roads when you can ride a better route on the Old Ports Reliability for £5 the following week.

yea, but Rapha aren't dumb, they know by charging this amount only a certain type of person will probablygo for it and it keeps the riffraph out of it, so if you do go on it you can be sure of like minded company. The price is for exclusivity.
