Volunteers to help at the ACC open 25 please [25 Apr]

Postby Tamar » Sun Jan 24, 2010 5:23 pm

I thought I’d get my marshal requirements in early this year…

Let me know beforehand and you'll get a contribution of £5 for your efforts :D .

What: Addiscombe Open 25
Where: G25/53 – this is predominantly on the A24, A2220 and A264 near Horsham with the outermost points of the course being Southwater, Tollgate Hill and Broadfield roundabouts.
When: Sunday 25 April. First rider off at 6.30am, last rider will clear the course 9.30-9.45am but we won’t be done at HQ until around 10.30…at which point we usually go for brunch at a café in Horsham.

It’s a complicated course with lots of roundabouts so needs a lot of marshals and other helpers. As a bare minimum to run a safe event we need:

2 pushers on the start line to hold the riders up enabling them to start clipped in and ready to ride
13 marshals to point which way the riders should go at roundabouts and junctions
3 checkers to keep a record of the order riders as they reach the farthest points of the course – this allows us to deal with any allegations of riders turning too soon or drafting
2 timekeeper helpers to spot and record the riders’ numbers as they come over the finish line and to phone results through to HQ
1-2 results collector/board writer-upper to receive results from finish line and enter onto spreadsheet/write on board for riders to view as they come in for tea after event
2-3 canteen helpers to make tea/coffee for riders, officials, spectators etc

Please let me know if you can help out.

More helpers will be very welcome as I’ll happily place extra marshals on larger roundabouts and other potentially misleading junctions to ensure riders do not go off course and to be a good hi-viz presence to give dozy drivers a clue that something’s going on.

Any questions just shout.

Many thanks
Tamar

Tamar,

I am about to change jobs which may negate this,I will know later in the week. I will happily do whatever task for this you wish, if I am not working this weekend.

The task of finding helpers begins again

I've never done this before but I'm willing to help.

I figure that since a lot of jobs in Britain now consist of wearing hi-viz and telling people what to do, the experience could be valuable.

Hi Tamar

Put Sam and me down. marshalling this has become an important feature of our busy social calandar - we even moved to Redhill especially so we wouldn't have to get up quite so early!!
