WOW!! Another Great Idea - Club TT Series prize

Postby Jon C C on a Bianchi » Thu Feb 04, 2010 8:36 pm

And another idea...

again probably totally unoriginal but....

what about a series prize for the Club TTs? For example taking your three best times over the series and totalling them up. For one it might encourage riders to come along to more than one TT and another it rewards consistency and commitment rather than the often unhandicapped rider that turns up and rides for a bit of glory (and why not?) but we never see again (OK, I know, another desperate attempt to wangle a medal !! ). It would also give a bit more coherence to the series rather than just being seen as a number of one-off TTs.

What does everybody else think?

Another good idea, had you're thinking cap on today Jon.

One modification I would suggest is that rather than being based on time, base it on position. Two of the club TTs are on the Bletchingley course which is much, much slower, and I think it's a bit longer than 10 miles too. So the fastest rider gets one point second fastest two points and so on, winner of the cometition is the rider with the lowest total for their best three placings. The best time gets the best placing but it would enable one or two of your scoring rounds to come from the Bletchingley course.

Points score rather than time sounds good. I did think about Bletchingley - thought that we might be able to factor it in - weight it differently from North Holmwood - but points would be simpler I guess. Down side would be that it's relative than absolute i.e. it all depends who you're riding against that week.

I have two ideas a year - always on the same day. The rest of the time I sit in front of the TV dribbling.

It was the Palace game that did it - FANTASTIC!!! - that and a bit of boiled cod - omega 3 good for the brain - and has the added benefit that i can suck it down rather than chew it with my ill-fitting dentures.

Again - what next? how do we get the ACC TT League up and running?

Fair point , boom boom, on the scoring, although I'm not sure how you'd factor it in unless perhaps you based it on the course record or something. Otherwise you'd be looking at basing it on handicap which is a different type of competition.

Looking at the relative who you're riding at bit, wasn't that part of the resaon for the idea, to encourage greater regular participation?

To get it going would just be a vote at committee I think, next meeting is 1st March.

Palace, hmmm good result just a shame your day-glo orange Stingfellow wannabe has taken them in to administration, loathsome individual that he is.

Ok Let's go with the points. I'd like to give 30 pts for 1st all the way down to 1 for 30th. Psychological this sits better with me - I like the idea of the winner scoring most rather than least and there is a practical consideration when compiling a league table. Rider A has ridden only once so far and won gets 1 pt, whereas rider B has ridden three times won them all and has 3 pts. Rider A would head the table (by virue of the fact he's ridden fewer races - not what we want). By scoring 30 for a win - rider B would be top with 90pts and Rider A would be mid-table with 30.

I would like a scratch league and a handicap league.

Anyway, I'll draw up a more detailed proposal. Do I have to get a seconder(s)? I would have thought the more support it has the more chance it has of getting accepted. What are the rules and procedures of putting something like this to committee?

Then of course there's the question of who would collate the table and deal with any admin. Of course as I'm proposing it I'd be more than happy to do it but I don't want to tread on any toes or put any noses out of joint. :D

Great work Jon that set of rules seems pretty much spot on. Might be worth using the new website rather than the forum for the tables as they could be made to look nice and pretty. I don't know what would be involved but would have thought Elliot and Chloe could give update permissions to you for it.
