Looking at his bike, I'd say he was trying to keep weight to an absolute minimum - he could've said a few milligrams with track mitts instead of full fingers

I rekon he had just bought the bike the day before as you can see it still has the reflectors on.
Also check out those woolly socks.

Bless,
this must be the same method Stuart used to learn with

I could've have done with some wooly socks these last few weeks .As for reflectors it took me a couple of weeks to realise that its not the 'done' thing to have them on your bike.I may be missing something here and he may be a friend but I think putting a picture of somebody on a forum to riducule when he has perhaps just started out is pretty pathetic . Almost as bad as standing at the side of the road to take a picture.Cycling snobbery is not very becoming.

Oh come on Lee, folks are just having a poke at his dress sense in this freezing weather. As for the photo, you will probably find that this is an official photographer for the ride and like all well organised rides they snap at everyone.

Unless I am mistaken none of those photos have deliberately been taken to show somebody up and then put on a public forum where behind their back they are being called a fool.

We are not ridiculing him behind his back. As a public forum it is out in the open. He is dressed inappropriately for the conditions. Or, if you prefer, dressed stupidly.
Sure he can keep warm riding up a hill. What if he'd punctured? Or crashed? Had to remain still for any length of time? You don't need to be stuck in a blizzard up a mountain to suffer exposure. In the 2008 etape dozens of riders who'd ignored the weather warnings and ridden dressed like your friend were carted off in ambulances wrapped in survival blankets. And that was in July.
Nobody is being snobby or pathetic, otherwise we'd have commented on his mtb helmet peak.

Ok . Fair enough. I 'll leave it there. But even so putting somebody up for public consumption when they are unaware in my book is wrong.

But on the plus side, if it wasn't for that photo no-one would believe you'd moved between the "sitting in the HQ drinking tea before" and the "sitting in the HQ drinking tea after" photos.

Ha, I very nearly didn't go on the ride though I did plan to potter around in the lanes to the north of Halstead instead but I saw the shorter ride and decided to go for that.

Anyway, you examining the photos with a microscope?!
