Surrey Hills night MTB ride

Thought it might be an idea to resurrect Marco’s idea from last year for a Surrey Hills night ride (I tried posting a little over a week ago but got literally zero response ). Anyway, anyone still keen? How about next Friday, the 12th of February? As suggested by Marco, we could meet at Peaslake at 8 or 8.30 and blast around in the dark for an hour or two.

Probably meet at 8.30 to give everyone a chance of getting there and it will probably be a friday so people dont worry about finishing the ride at 10.30pm and getting home from there in time to get to bed early. Also it will probably be some time in January.
Fortunately Aodan knows orienteering and that so hopefully we will get round safely!

What do you reckon? Fun or folly!?

Definitely interested Mike, but I won't be able to commit to do any of these until almost right up to the time unfortunately. If I can I'll be there and keep an eye out for meeting details.

Well that got everyone excited didnt it Mike . I'm just shifting a cold so couldn't have made Friday, is there any interest in trying for this coming Friday, the 19th? How about a start time of 8.30pm from Peaslake Village Stores, so folk can start getting there from 8ish onwards to get ready and put bikes together for an 8.30 off. I think it would be better to say a depart time and let folk get there earlier if they want for a night ride than have the usual half hour or so of faffing after the meeting time. Does that make sense?

I can commit to a definite this week but don't want to go on my tod for obvious safety reasons of night MTB riding, and no that doesn't mean I'm worried about bogey men .

I've decided against it now, doesn't look like anyone will be disappointed by the huge show of interest . As you say Aodan it'll be very cold and I think for a first night ride at Leith Hill I'd prefer some more "normal" weather.

Considering the enthusiasm that Marco's original proposal was met with back in November I've been surprised at the underwhelming response to my attempts to resurrect it. Oh well.

Unfortunately I was away in northern Germany all of last week (where there was around a foot of snow on the ground; their worst winter for 20+ years), so couldn't have made it anyway.

Looks like the weather might be getting a bit milder towards the end of the week; this Friday then?

Edit: looks like it could be a bit of a mud-fest, with heavy showers forecast for much of the week. Hmmm...

One last stab before I give up on this idea altogether.

Anyone want to try for this Friday? Weather looks good, trails should be mostly dry after a week without rain. I can even loan some good lights if anyone's keen but doesn't have their own.
