Socially Yours

Folks. I'm now the social secretary for ACC. What can I do for you?

Things I'll be taking a look at soon:

Dinner 2011
Summer Picnic

Something I'm keen to develop is more member benefits. Currently members get a well organised regular club run, discounts at GB and Pearsons, the Lanterne Rouge, chance to attend Club Dinner, Darts matches. What else could we be doing? I'm keen to create real value for members, which I hope in turn will drive up swift payment of subs every year. Does anyone know a business in Croydon and surrounds that might be willing to offer ACC members a small discount on production of a membership card (yes they are coming please bear with us). If you do can you please have a word, let me know the feedback and see if this is something we can build up. It would be great if we could get a small discount say from a couple of eateries in/around S Croydon. We could then link a meal with a few drinks in the half n half and make an evening of it.

So - any suggestions and ideas welcome. Can't promise to act on them all but as you know I enjoy helping the club to have fun, so fire away.

Cheers! Snoop

I've managed to get discounts out of Bike+ and Corridori too. I told my wife how much money I've saved in the last few months but she wasn't that impressed for some reason.

I'm just thinking aloud, but how about a pub meetup in central London at some point? A lot of ACCers work in town, so I was thinking after work on a Thurs or Fri.

Or Victoria or Clapham Junction would be better for transport south.

Happy to do the research!

Phil - any chance you can get these formalised next time you are in there? So if you don't mind, please can you ask if they would offer this to ACC, only on production of a valid member card though. If they are agreeable I will make sure we get a blank card to them so they know what it looks like and this will stop non members taking advantage.

Cheers mate

Champion idea.

This v nearly happened towards the end of 09 and I'm sure it will happen in 2010. Elliot - a suitable venue would be v useful please mate then we can stick something in the diary with enough notice to attract a good few out, and encourage them not to ride in that day. Well done - hic!

Will have a think about pubs... on second thoughts... forget CJ; Victoria very accessible, but a long way West and I know quite a few work nearer City... can you get back to Croydon from London Bridge?

PS Speaking of pubs it's the Rollapaluza (sp?) finale next Weds in Herne Hill which should be good, but that's one for a separate post.

Victoria is easier for Croydon when it's a late one. LB is more of an "office" station.

Also gives Sean the chance to leap into a cab and say "Take me to Victoria!"

There are trains from LB to Croydon and they aren't that infrequent up to about 11pm. May not be as regular as Victoria. There's a couple of reasonable pubs down the road but one of them, The Old kings head, is very small and always full on any day so not really suitable for a gathering. The George does speckled Hen and has a big outdoors so could be okay for those stopping in on their ride home, problem is you're then very weather reliant.

I'm with David on this one, great range of beers, good food, also easy for people to get to if they wanted to come from Croydon, Also another one to throw in the pot "The Bedford" Ballham, so when are we thinking about for the next gathering?

put march 17th in your diary folks - I'm OK with this clapham venue too - will kick off a separate note about this tonight. We can use this as a chance to say au revoir to Sean too (having previously checked he can make this date :) ). Does the clapham pub have a dart board? (hope so)

CJ is not exactly central. Stations with trains heading south like Victoria, Charring Cross, London Bridge are more central. Trains from London Bridge to Croydon on a Wednesday night

22:58 to EC
23:12 to EC
23:14 slow to SC
23:18 slow to WC
23:42 to EC
23:53 to SC
00:12 to EC
00:26 to EC
00:42 to EC
01:05 to EC
01:35 to EC
02:05 to EC
03:05 to EC

I think there are some nice venues down around borough market?
