They only make the noise when you are going fast, so you better buy some power cranks to make sure you are going fast efficiently so you can hear the whoosh and whirr of your Zippy wheels.

Just my tuppence worth on this, when I have done a bit, and I mean a smidgen of training with one legged stuff on the turbo trainer, it does seem to make riding with two legs a lot easier afterwards. Maybe prolongued periods of doing this with something like power cranks would have a positive benefit. Remember Adam some of us have day jobs so we can't spend as much time as you riding and resting so we need the gimmicky quick fixes.

It sounds like Paul H and George who both have them like the effects that the cranks have, they are pretty well trained athletes for the time they have to train it sounds like it has given them some benefits. I kind of trust Paul on this one as he is a very competent athlete who would chuck his power cranks out if they were not working or having any benefit, or he would try to sell them to me for double what he paid for them. :D

Cheers

Marek....

If you want the same effect for less money, here's a suggestion: you want to get both feet pedalling complete rotations, forcing you to apply some effort on the upward part of the stroke too. Why not simply take off the left crank and rotate it 180 degrees on the axle so both cranks are facing the same way. Then both feet are on the downstroke together and on the upstroke and have to pedal complete circles.

Also, I reckon it will be fun to watch someone try it.

I haven't used the cranks hence my question but I imagine that they would have to provide some sort of improvement over using normal cranks

Huw, you seem quite definate that power is the way to go,why?? I really don't know if power would be the way forward for me as I follow no structured plan. However maybe getting a power meter would mean I would become more structured

Adam, as someone said previously I don't have the luxury of endless training hours and recovery as I work 12 hours a day mon - fri. Hence the reason anything that might give me more bang for my buck when I do train is welcomed. Also the supposed benefits from powercranks for running appeal given that I have a few tris lined up againhis year

however.  Both options are quite expensive when you say outloud what they are.... A crank and a computer!!

I have some cheeky bids on power meters on eBay but don't expect to win.  Also I'm not too sure about buying this sort of thing secondhand from someone unknown...... Anybody here thinking of selling one??

I Need to think More about how I would use the power meter in particular. No point in buying it then still plodding along doing the same thing

on that note. Which would be better? Ergomo, powertap, srm is expensive but there is also themetrigear due out this year???

I would go for a PowerTap. Ergomos do not appear to accurate and the firm has gone bust.

What are you expecting to get of a Power meter?

Are you a numbers man? If not then a Power meter may not be for you.

Do you have a HR Monitor? If not, I would say get one of these first.

Yes I would definately say that I was a numbers man. I have been using a garmin edge 305 for a couple of years and download the ridedetails to my pc afterwards. This is knackered now so need new computer.

I often look back and compare the rides to ones done previously particularly the cr as this is the same each week so easy to compare.
