Looking for some new road shoes...

Postby sonic909 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:13 pm

I usually use my sexy white specialized Pro MTB shoes... but i have bought some new proper road pedals as part of my "roadbikerebuild" project and they are 3 bolt cleats and wont fit my shoes.

So i am selling some stuff to pay for the new shoes... (sounds like something my GF would do!) but i cant decide what to get.

I want them to be white, as i just love white footwear (its the chav in me!) but the road versions of my specialized are virtually the same as the MTB ones and i don't want 2 pairs the same...

I have wide feet, and want bling white shoes... i also love carbon so that would be a bonus!
I borrowed some SIDI's from PVT a while back and they crushed my feet so i guess they are out of the question due to my wideboy feet:(

Any recommendations?

If only these would fit;

do you have the mtb sworks shoes then? thinking of getting some to replace my 4 year old sidis

the road version is a 10/10. they must be over 150gm lighter than those sidis too

(edit: sorry re-read your post it's the pro you have)

I've heard of the Sidi wide fit Sylv but not found a shop that stocks them for you to try, only order them in, but how do you know they'll fit :? .

Sonic I have wide feet too and also use specialized. Next pair I get I'll also look at northwave as apparantly they use the same last as specialized (my winter boots are northwave and fit well). PVT uses northwave and likes them and they do a tarty design or two that might please you :D .

I too have wide feet, but paradoxically find Sidi shoes to be very comfortable.

There is a range of wider Sidi shoes, but (as Andrew and Sylv say) finding any in stock is a bit of an issue.

Sidi shoes always look better than Spesh ones, though

Ditto with feet size! I have the specialized for both Road and MTB.
Have the white BG road shoes and they're bling enough for me, although it looks like they've changed the design a bit.

what about some yellow to match your kit?

Sidi's MEGA range are better suited for wide feet. GB's do them, or Cycles Dauphin at Box Hill.

Northwave also seem to be better suited to wider feet.

I've got these:

Mavic Zxellium - who dreams up these names?
I tried the S-Works in a shop, but the Mavics made the Specialized feel cheap. The heel cup is excellent.
I've wide feet, and narrow ankles.
They're not quite as white as the ones in the picture  but they're for using rather than looking at :D .

P.S. The only real way to choose cycling shoes is to go and try them on.

Adidas are in fact rebranded Mavics, Sean. Adidas shoes came first, but were made by Mavic. Clever of Mavic really, get the multinational conglomorate to pay the r&d and take the risk on board, wait a year or two, then steal the thunder by releasing your own far cooler looking line of shoes.

But yes, there really is only one brand really worth discussing... SIDI
